Hey guys, I was wondering about using glitter/dried flowers etc on the tops of my loaf batches. This led me to a question! How does one spray the surface with alcohol without messing up all the glitter etc? Wait a little for it to adhere to the surface some? Also, what % alcohol does everyone use? Mine is a 99% isopropyl. The stench when I spray the soap makes me choke! :?

Why do you need alcohol for CP soap? It won't help adhering herbs and mica should stay on without it.

Supposed to stop ash. The batch I didn't spray got very bad ash, the batch I did spray got none.

Oh? What % beeswax? And do you just melt it in with the oils? I've read that it can make your bar a little more firm, which would be nice!

I cover mine with plastic wrap & don't get ash.

Hestey, could you spritz with the alcolol and then do the 'decorating' ? I also wondering if you put glitter or mica on without the ash would this cover the ash up so it was not even noticeable. Most of the time I just embrace the soda ash as something unique to my bars. The plastic wrap idea works well if you do not have a textured top.

The ash that I got is super thick and I don't really like it :( I DO like the super textured tops with a little bit of glitter on them though! Not sure if its special glitter or not though, can I use regular stuff from Michaels? Getting excited! My wooden loaf mold should be at home when I get back, hopefully!!!

Mella, I'm not Irena, but I read on another forum about beeswax and it was said to use 1% PPO. I haven't done it so IDK. :)

I use beeswax in practically every batch at about 1%, sometimes a bit more.

After Irena's advice, I too have been using Beeswax in my batches and don't get any ash anymore :) I melt mine with the oils - I noticed I need to heat it up a bit more / a bit longer for them to melt. :)

Yep, beeswax has a high melting point. When I use it I will do a 1%.

As for the glitter, you need to use body safe glitter. I just used some on my "Fresh Fallen Snow" soap that is in the freezer as we speak. This one had the shredded glitter from BB. The only one I have not liked are the little stars... their edges are sharp and I kind of over did it with them

If I were using glitter to decorate my soaps I would make sure that its not metallic or made of glass.
