Coolah, what would it look like if you bevel the top?

I don't have a beveler so not sure. Although I think there's a few air bubbles trapped from the ricing coloured parts. I did bang the mold on the bench top to get most of them out. But I think it's fairly smooth under there.

If they don't zap, are they usable? Can soap's zap at some points, but not at others? ie should I go licking all sides of the soap to test?

"Mommy, what are you doing?" "Just licking the soap kids!" hehehe The book I got suggested using a potato peeler as a beveling tool until you are at the point when an actual tool is needed =) It didn't have any tricks for a planer though! That's what I need, when I made Spots! I forgot to spray with alcohol and it has a nice ash layer

Yeah, I don't think my family would care even if they knew what it was, since its not dangerous hehe. They would probably tease me a lot mind you :o

Coolah, I like your new mold. You did very well on the swirls - even if it did rice. You could give it to your testers and just let them know it will get better from here out. I had my first batch rice a year ago, did OP to force gel and then gave it to a select few of the family... I got rave reviews from that bar, go figure. I then tried the same recipe with a different fragrance... thinking that was the cause... but no - it started to rice again, but I was quicker with this one.... beat it into submission, did a layering instead of a swirl and vowed not to use that recipe again.

I think your soap gremlins came to my house today. I lost a batch that accelerated trace, riced and oozed liquid lye. It went into the trash.

Oh no! I was sure they went out with the trash. I did a big dramatic ceremony of binning all the crap soap last week. My rubbish bin smelt fantastic! Apart from the soft soap of the orange peel loaf, everything has been going ok.

My testers are good, they know that I am learning. I share my successes and my pitfalls with them. They won't care if it's bumpy. If I didn't tell them it was a 'stuffed up' batch, they wouldn't know and probably wouldn't care lol. Course, you then watch them start asking for "that bumpy soap you sent us last time" haha.

So long as the ricing hasn't done anything to make the soap damaging to the skin, I'll spread it around friends and family.

Eep Irena! Keep those gremlins away! I sure hope they are allergic to snow, Canadian anti-gremlin defense mechanism!

This happened to me today too. This makes twice and I it was also like stirring cement. It happens to everyone sooner or later. It looks pretty cool thought. :D
