I found a list of unsafe essential oils during pregnancy (http://www.essentialoils.co.za/pregnancy.htm) and it really covers a lot of the most popular scents. Can anyone tell me if this is legitimate? I want to avoid anything dangerous.

Also, are these EO's unsafe in their bottled form? What about bathing with soaps that have these EO's? Off-limits too?

Thank you for the link. Lots of those EO's you would not want to use under any circumstances. Essential oils that are normally safe can be used in soaps as soap is a wash off product.

Would you need to post a warning on say sage oil in soap?

I'm 6 weeks pregnant. So if I make a batch of soap with peppermint essential oil for example (which is an emmenagogue—a menstrual period regulator and harmful for pregnant women) then is it dangerous if the EO gets on my skin or if I inhale the scent? This has me pretty freaked out. I'm thinking of forgoing all EO's and stick to FO's during my pregnancy unless I'm thinking about this all wrong.

Essential oils are not intended to be used undiluted on any person's skin, even though I do from time to time (really depends on the essential oil!)

SMELLING an essential oil is a very small exposure and should not harm you or your growing lima bean. Now whether or not that scent makes you nauseous or hungry is a COMPLETELY different matter.

Always discuss essential oil and herbal use with your GYN & GP during all phases of pregnancy. Err on the side of caution always, it's just the responsible thing to do. :)

In conclusion, feel free to smell, smell away. Don't ingest or rub on essential oils you don't have clearance for from your physician. Spilled some on yourself? Don't panic, go wash it off.
