I'm a bit late into this thread, only just found it now... after my NG FO arrived. :?

I found the site and nearly fainted at all the choices! I was looking for Monkey Farts as they sold out pretty much the same day I made them! (MP). I had purchased the first lot off eBay, but he was no longer there, so googling lead me to NG.

Arrived today is Monkey Fart, Reindeer Poo, Elf Sweat, Lick me all Over, Magic Potion, Stud, Beer, Poison Pie, Tooth Fairy Taffy, Toxic Trance, Doodle Bug, Bi Polar, The Perfect Man, Purple Hooters, Sun your Buns, Money and Drag Strip. Most are tester size.

Course now I'm wondering if I just wasted money hehe.

How do I work out what 5% of my batch is? Previously I've only used BB oils, so have used their calculator. Or I have done MP and gone by my nose (in the very beginning). But now I don't have a calculator to tell me how much to use, how do I work it out myself?

I saw a couple of the comments that said 0.7 to 0.8 PPO? I assume that means 0.8 oz for every pound of oil? How do I work it out for grams?

My 1kg batch of soap uses approx 700g of oils (rest is water/milk and lye).

A kilo is 2.2 lbs. so you would need about 1.5 ozs. which is 42.55 grams. (42.6 to make it easier). The 1.5 ozs. is just a general number. Depending on the strength of your fragrance, you might need a little more or a little less.

OK, so that's close to what I got. I did 700 * 0.05 = 35g. Or, if it's working off Oils and water, 1000 * 0.05 = 50g
I figured somewhere in the middle (not knowing what they were basing the 5% 0ff) was about 42.5

I assume it's the same calculation for both CP and MP?

I use 0.5 to 1 oz. (rarely at 1 oz.) whether MP or CP. It also depends on the strength of the fragrance, or skin safety of an essential oil.

Ok... trying to convert this over to grams (damn not having a universal weight lol).

Ok... so 1kg log = 2.2 lb log
I would scent that with 1.5 ozs. or 42.55 grams

So I have 'tester oils here that are 1oz or 28.34g
That means I could basically only make a 500g batch with a 1oz sample of oil?

The ones I have here are the ones listed below - all 'made up' fragrances. From what I can see on the NG site, they all say Max 5%, which is the 1.5oz / 42.6g, right?

(I failed Maths at school. This all hurts my head lol :? )

I usually use 1 oz. on a 2 lb batch of CP to see how I like it. If its pretty strong I use less. If it's week smelling in the bottle I'll add a little somthing else to it just so as not to waste the soap.

1 kilogram = 2.20462262 pounds

2.2 pounds of oils or 36 ounces of oils used in a batch of soap require from 1.0ounce ( equal 28.3495 grams) to 2.0 ounces of fragrance (56.6990463 grams), depending on the fragrance and on the safety amounts recommended by the manufacturer.

When did you start selling your soaps?

I'm not actually selling anything yet. I've got a group of my best customers from my clothing business who have been helping test my MP creations, but that's all so far.

Explains why I'm finding the CP smells so strong though - I've never put more than 10mls into any of my MP batches

Oh yeah, no CP sales, no way! They just get the MP stuff off me while I'm learning the CP.
