Hello Soaping Friends,

Whenever I do an embed, usually within a day or two the embeded soap has faded. What can I do to slow this down? I usually use micas, as my colorant. I have tried a liquid uv inhibitor, but that didn't really help is the powder form better. Any help is tips you can offer is greatly appreciated.

Hi, foreverangie. Hmm, I'm not quite sure what's going on with your embeds fading, but I wonder if the mica you used is prone to fading? For example, I found that BB's Mauvey Gem mica fades from deep purple to a lighter pinkish-purple within a few days. I've had good luck with most micas in M&P soap, but have experienced fading with that one. Maybe others fade, too. Which micas did you use?

You may want to check out oxides, too. They are very stable and do not bleed or fade.

Thanks so much for this tip. I was using a red that I purchased from WSP, but it also happened with my celini blue from BB. I will try oxides and see if this does not help. Again many thanks for your help.

I've never used WSP's red or BB's Cellini Blue myself, so I don't have any experience with them. BB's Cellini Blue is a bleeding color, though, which means that it will migrate or spread to other layers in the soap if you are using more than one color. If you are looking for colorants that don't bleed, BB offers a list of non-bleeding colorants: http://www.brambleberry.com/Non-Bleedin ... -C303.aspx. Some micas morph into different colors in CP soap, too.
