Teach Soap

How do I add a link into a signature? By this I mean, having the words "Soap Blog" but being able to add the link for my blog to those words, so when you click on Soap Blog, you'll go to my blog. I can do it on one of the other forums I go to, but can't figure it out on here.

Hi, Soap9. Go to "User Control Panel" and click on "Profile" and then click "Edit signature." To insert a link, click the URL button in the toolbar. You'll need to tinker with the URL tags a bit to make a clickable blue hyperllink.

When you click the URL button, this will come up: [url][/url]. If you just post your link between the tags, the full website address appears. If you want hyperlink text (like "My soap blog"), cursor over into the first URL bracket and type an equal sign after the first "url." Then type your web address. Go to the end of the first bracket. In between the end of the first bracket and the beginning of the second, type your hyperlink text (i.e., "My soap blog"). The closing [/url] tag is fine as it is.

Thanks Mella! I WISH they were my soaps on the front page! They are just all the lovely 'soap porn' I have found on the internet and pinned them onto my Pinterest board. I would love to make soaps like those one day!

Congrats on your blog! Is it safe to presume that you asked the other soapers for permission to post their work?

Hmmm, ordinarily I ALWAYS ask permission to feature artists, or use images from other artists, if I am doing a blog piece on them. Even when I have done Treasuries on Etsy, I have always notified the artist to let them know. Pinterest is like a virtual pin board and many of the images are ones I have re-pinned from other people on the site. Clicking on such an image will take you directly to the source of the image, whether it be a blog, Etsy, Tumblr, etc, so the traffic always ends up at its origin. In this particular case/website, I'm not sure that permissions are required. I'd hope that the website would have covered their bases as far as that sort of thing was concerned, otherwise, how would such a website be allowed to run? I would certainly hate to step on toes as far as this was concerned!

It is my opinion that these soap photos that you have pinned need to carry the soapers name on them so that they are credited not only with the photo but also for the soap.

So did all these soapers give their permission without you using THEIR name with the photos? Perhaps there are no manners anymore.

I'm glad Irena! Generally (as explained earlier) I do CMA. As for this particular website, it didn't even occur to me. Someone has posted something they like (it could be that they have found the link, or reposted someone elses), then I've come along, liked and reposted, someone has seen mine, liked and reposted, and so on. It's a fine line there I think.
