Hi Linda, Yes I have watched that video and some others. I felt like I was in school again, taking notes etc

Well I made my first batch of soap ! I was feeling cocky so I blended two colors of soap together. I had already spent my budget on soap stuff for the month. So I adjusted the recipe again, because I hate to pay retail for stuff and will be buying more oils next pay period. What I did was use 50% coconut oil, 40% GV vegetable shortening , 5% castor oil, 2% mowrah butter, and 3% pure sunflower oil. The only issue I had was minor ricing, but once again I referred back to my notes and had found an article that said you could fix that by adding a bit of water and blending it in. I did and the ricing went away ! I have let it set up for 24 hours in the mold and it is still a tiny bit soft (think cooled candle wax), but is turning to soap. I went ahead and cut it and have it curing. I now understand why soap making is addicting ! I called my mom and friends and announced my first batch, like it was a baby !

I am just going to hate the waiting to cure part ! Yes Dave W I may just post a picture of my first batch ! I poured light purple and blue kinda here and there and used a bamboo pick to swirl it a bit. It came out pretty and now I really want to make another batch. I wonder if I will be able to wait ?

Congrats on your batch! The soap is most likely soft due to the extra water.

Sounds like you had a great time and were very well prepared! Now while it is curing you can make the labels, think up how you will package it and dream up a name. :D

Congrats to you too debsisson ! I may make another batch tomorrow as my daughter wants to help me make one (that and some soap leaked into the other half of my four pound mold and looks wonky !) Yes Bubbles2 I have a name for my body stuff and would like to use a cigar band type wrap on them. I like the idea of using seeded paper for the labels but don't want them to sprout ! thank you soapbuddy I will put them away to cure for a while !

debsisson Did you get to the point of your head throbbing with soap facts too ? I studied so hard that I started to dream about making soap.
I forgot to post it but I used a fragrance oil that I found that I loooove ! I can barely walk by the bottle without sniffing it ! I have done melt and pour but cold process really appealed to me more. Once I get my skills up to par I plan on selling them. I know how to make other stuff(fizzies, salts etc). Making soap from scratch gives you more control over the finished product than M&P. I am going for a ultra rich good for maturing skin bar and I want to experiment with various clays and essential oils too.
