Hi again folks! Back with another question I was hoping to get some feed back on.

Im going to make a super mild chamomile infused baby soap and the recipe says that if the soap doesnt gel, then the bar will be lighter and the cure time will lengthen.

Is are these statement true for all un-gelled CP soaps?

I have not un-gelled before, and I see from the forum that lots of people, upon pouring the soap into their mold, just put it in the freezer. What if I just dont insulate the soap after pouring? Is one method preferable over the other?

Anything I should suspect or keep my eyes out for in this task?

Will an soap thats not gone through the gel phaze be any milder?

Here is my recipe:
2.88 oz. castor oil
29.12 oz olive oil
12.16 oz water
3.969 oz lye

Oh yeah, and my scale doesnt do 100ths, so should I round the lye down to 3.95 oz?

I prefer not to gel. The soap might be lighter, but either way you need the same amount of cure time. For a small batch, round up the oils and round down on the lye.

For me, I don't care one way or another about the soap color and I prefer to gel because it's more convenient. Not to mention that some soap will gel even in the fridge! Your recipe is very high in olive oil so it will probably take longer to cure, similar to castile soap (100% olive oil), which can be used after 4 weeks, but is so much nicer after a 4-6 month cure! 8)

Thanks Linda. Do you think that an ungelled soap is milder than one that has gelled?

Im thinking that it makes no difference, because the lye reacts the same with the oils either way.

The mildness comes from the ingredients used and how much you superfated. It has nothing to do whether the soap gelled or didn't.
