Teach Soap

I did several oven process batches of soap over the past 3 weeks. I received my PH test strips today and tested 2 of my soaps and they tested a 7 and a 8. I didn't want my PH that high! Oven process is suppose to make the soap useable relatively quick. If I left it sit another week or two will my PH go down? I was hoping to aim for a 6 at least. What are your PH levels? Sigh.... I've also made several batches of regular cp, but I didn't test them.

The PH of handmade soap is usually around 9.

So my soap is fine? It's not going to burn my friends skin off then? Well that's good to know. I thought I read that we were suppose to aim for a 6 - guess not. So a soap being at a 9 will be moisturizing and all that wonderful stuff?

Thank you for your help! I was worried, but will worry no longer and start giving my soap out. The soap that is a 7 I used last week and it was nice.

My soap is never a 7, always around 9 if I use paper ph test, but I hear they are not accurate so I really never test anymore unless I think something went wrong. I test all my soap, etc., on me before they go out the door.

pH test strips usually will give you a range, but not the actual number. You would need a pH meter for that and they are expensive. Most people just check for zap with their tongue. Your tongue is pretty sensitive and will let you know.
