OKay - Wednesday I made 2 batches of soap - seemed to turn out great - into the frig they went, as usual. Normally I would pull them out after 24 hours, get them out of the mould, and then cut the next day.

But immediately after I finished the second batch, we got a phone call that my mother in law was dying. So we fly out the door to the airport. I am at her house as I type this - taking a break fronm feeding relatives all day long. She is still hanging in there, thank goodness....

Not to seem as though soap is anywhere NEAR as important as the family thing, but I was just wondering:

anybody left soap in the frig waaay longer than usual? Will it be cement by the time I get back?

soapbuddy? any other frig folks?

I know - it's just soap. But it's nice to think about something else for a few minutes.

It will be fine. Don't worry. Take care of yourself and your family.

Kat - remember there are some soapers that sell the entire loaf or cut you a bar in the store. That is what you are doing without planning it.

Hope your mom and family have an easy time of the task ahead. I know it can be painful and stressful but such a gift you are giving your mother by being there! I will keep you in my prayers!

I am really sorry about your MIL. Don't worry about your soap. Just take care right now and worry about soap later.

If Soapbuddy and others say it will be okay than I am sure it will be. Just wanted to send regards and good thoughts to you and your family.

HI everyone - I'm back home now. My mother in law passed away, not unexpectedly, but still - very hard times.
Thanks for all the kind words and thoughts.

The soap, as I mentioned before, is a nice distraction. And yes, the soap was just fine after it's elongated stint in the frig. The pumpkin batch (with pumpkin puree) looks fabulous - but so far, as with most pumpkin FOs (from what I read/hear) it smells mostly of spice and not of pumpkin. Time will tell if any actual pumpkin smell re-emerges.

The other batch is a maple syrup one - looks average, smells a bit like burnt sugar...lol

Of the other, older batches - "christmas tree" one is finally mellowing out - it is the only batch I've ever had to leave out on the porch (when it was fresh), or else DH threatened to go to a hotel!
(note to self - less FO on that one next time!) The gardenia finally backed off a bit, too - that one was driving me right out of the house for a while too!

On a lighter note: I mentioned to DH that I thought I was about done making the soaps for the Christmas season. I thought he'd be glad to hear that, but he objected, and thought I ought to keep making a few more batches. Go figure!! :P

I'm sorry for your loss Kat2011. Please accept my condolences. I'm glad to see that your soaps turned out fine. If it makes you feel better, go make a few more batches. HUGS!

You are right Kat, expected or not it is hard. Take the time you need and I am with soapbuddy, making another batch or two of soap may be good therapy right now. You seem to be into strong scents.... so why not try a peppermint?
Hang in there - we are here for you!

Thanks for the kind words everyone,

oh and Susie - actually - if you reread my posts, I am complaining about the strong scents - I hate them - those were both oopsies batches with new FOs. :o

And, I appreciate the thought, but I am DEATHLY allergic to peppermint..lol

trying to get rid of me?

Oh Kat, no! Sorry about that suggestion. You really did choose some strong scents to work with though. I understand about allergies, have to avoid all tree and ground nuts for my grand-dtr. So why not choose a scent and color that is your favorite and make that.

HI Susie,

I plan on taking your advice this afternoon. I have a lovely wild rose batch, with pink swirls, that will be beautiful and soothing. It's the only real "girly girl" soap that I make, and I think that would work for me today.

Until recently, I have always been an "EO only" girl, so these FOs are all an experiment for me. I check the soap scent review board regularly, but no one ever reviews the ones that I can get my hands on economically...so...I just cross my fingers and give it a go!
