I think I might be a front runner for this prize!!!

I just got a beautiful rose FO, planning a pink and white swirl - everything's going great - swirls in loaf pan look great.....

I FORGOT to put in the FO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so - ( and the dumb continues....) NO chance of getting it out of the loaf (big one!) and back into the pan, so I dumped about half of my measured out FO directly into the loaf mold, and take my SS whisk to it. Nice swirls all gone, of course, as I try to whisk the oil in.

It got thick fast - hard to tell if the FO got mixed in adequately. And besides.,....a million other things...grrrrr
So I stick it in the frig (planned on keeping it nice and light by not gelling)

BEST potential case scenario - it comes out fine, fragrance a bit light, all light pink, no swirls

WORST potential case scenario - mealy textured mess, pockets of oozing FO not mixed in, little or no fragrance

Wonderful hubby says "was it because of the heat?" (very hot outside today)
For a minute, I considered blaming it on the heat, or some other story to cover my stupidity, but in the end - I told him the truth. NO excuses - just concentrating so hard on my pretty colors, forgot about the FO (even though it is measured out and sitting RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!!!!)

All right - my lovely soaping companions - if you think you can beat me out for this prize - let's hear it!!!!!

I'm so sorry!
I can't say I've done worse because I'm new to soap making. I haven't even made my first batch yet!
I've just joined the group, and I'm doing a lot of research first.
I've been getting my supplies, and doing my homework!
I must say, it's very helpful to read the mistakes made by others. Hopefully I won't make the same.
Thank You for sharing your terrible experiences today,
I hope tomorrow will be better!

I have done worse than that. So many of my visions have turned out nothing like what I thought they would look or smell like, but in the end, they all turned out in their own wonderful way. I know yours will too. :D

Bummer. It happens. I know what's sometimes in my heads doesn't come out like I envisioned.

Kat, I can't say that I beat you but I can say I join you. I did the same thing with my carrot soap, did not notice the FO I had measured until I started to clean up, then it was too late. Finally decided to make a second batch that afternoon. Now I try to write down the steps I need to take. Both of those carrot soaps came out fine, but most of my family prefers the scented one. My guess is you will still like this soap!

I've done worse. Last week I put some EOs in a plastic cup. You guessed it, it ate away the cup. Got all over my table. There is now a spot on it. PLUS, I ended up acidently mixing vanilla and lemongrass in my confusion (although I am loving the smell now).

I can't help but laugh. I did the same thing when I was trying to show my DIL how to make soap. Lost all the swirls and FO has completely faded so I could have at least saved the swirls if i would have known. Sad thing was it was a four lb batch. I haven't left it out since though. The soap is usable if not pretty with no scent.

so.. I cut the soap today - it actually doesn't look half bad! There is still some color variation ...well... mottling, I'd guess you'd say - which is random and rather attractive!

It smells okay for now, but it only has half the FO the recipe called for, so I'll have to wait a few weeks and see if it stays around or not.

A number of the bars cracked when they were cut - not sure why - the soap was definitely not too hard - never had crackling from being too soft before - has anyone else?

I tried to press the cracked bars back together, but I have serious doubts whether that will work or not as the soap dries...
But there will be a few "sellables" out of this small batch - enough to tell whether the recipe is worth another try or not. The other bars will make a lovely addition to the annual Christmas candle and soap grab bags!

I've done that. Tried to save it, and kicked myself in the pants wondering why I just didn't leave well enough alone.....

However....... 2 days ago, I was so nervous about the insurance adjuster coming out to look at the roof, finaly, that I stick blended my oils for about 5 minutes before I realized that my lye solution was still sitting in the sink!

I am ashamed to admit how many times I have done the exact same thing but I have been lucky enough to catch it before it was to late so far and I haven't had the acceleration happen at the same time yet.
I have also done the essential oils in the plastic measuring cup. I know better so if I had thought about what I was doing I could have saved a 5 lb batch of salt bars. I was washing up when I figured out why there was an unusual slime in the soap when mixing. Luckily it was unnoticeable in the end product and there were plenty of folks that were delighted to get the free bar- plastic and all. It got a lot of people to try the salt bars too so not too much of a loss since they are now addicted-heeheeheee :)
