So of course, like perhaps all soapers, at some point I want to try making a true chocolate cp soap and apparently it CAN work with real bakers chocolate: http://blog.thesage.com/2010/02/22/choc ... cess-soap/

My idea is to make a chocolate castile with a little milk added (subbed for some of the water), and also include a touch of lavender EO (say 0.5oz ppo). I think it would be amazing with chocolate (if you could even smell it?).

Crazy or quite possible?

I would be worried that the cocoa powder would bleed. Chocolate & Mint sounds like a good combo. I'm not sure how chocolate & lavender would work. Try it. When I use cocoa butter in my soap, the scent does not come through.

Chocolate and lavender sounds doable, although I suspect the chocolate might be the stronger of the two -- I can see that one taking a few tries to get the balance right :o But the scents together should be interesting XD Sort of a very fancy dessert, or something.

Well my idea is not to use cocoa powder but pure, unsweetened baker's chocolate which I've read some folks have used with success. And lavender chocolate is actually a real combo used in some desserts. Plus lavender smells amazing with cocoa butter/vanilla in a lotion bar I made.

Sooo ... trying to figure out how to do this with cp soap. (Did you see the Sage link I posted?)

Edit: and call me nuts but I swear I can smell the cocoa butter in my soap when I use it at 8-10%. That said, my sniffer is a zillion times more sensitive than most. So maybe an OO + cocoa butter soap would be divine...there's something about the texture of cb in soap that is superior to shea IMHO. But that's just me!

I use lavender infused sugar in my chocolate cake, and cookies. Yummm!

Anyway, I get a soft chocolate scent by using bakers chocolate. I use 1 square of unsweetened and 2 squares of white chocolate for a 2 pound batch. I use a lot of coco butter in that particular soap too.

Very cool! So I'm not totally crazy for thinking this could work!

Hmm ... strategizing ... this could be fun!

I think it would work great and even though I know you are asking about chocolate I have used cocoa powder in soap with no bleeding or gouey-ness I did use it at the amount in I think it was the everything soap book but it could have been a different book i got from the library but I have nice hard bar the bubbles are clear and we love it. I have a horrible nose and never smell the cocoa in my soap but do in smell it in the whipped butter I make. Good luck and post pics :D

Oh, I get mildly chocolate bubbles. It's never been at issue though. Some people actually really love it. Like taking a shower in chocolate milk as one ladys tells me ;)

Hmm, just thought of something: if I use pure unsweetened baker's chocolate... that has cocoa butter in it (naturally), doesn't it? i.e. would that mess up the lye calculations a bit in that there'd be too much extra/unsaponified fats? (I like to SF at about 7%)

Okay well I'm just waiting for my next shipment of oils/butters from BB so once I have more cocoa butter I'm off to the races. And I've got a fun color / swirl idea for this one too!

Will keep ya posted :)
