Teach Soap

I'm playing around with some EOs and want to make a nice rugged type of scent. 2 of the EOs I'm looking at using are lavender and cedarwood (and then "anchor" it with a touch of patchouli and maybe a teensy bit of cinnamon too).

Should I use the cedarwood/lavender in equal parts? When I test them (just on q-tips in a shot glass sized container) they don't seem to cancel one or the other out but hard to tell. I'd like the overall scent to be quite warm but the lavender will give it that bit of interest I like in a scent.

Lavender, Cedarwood & Patch would make a good blend. I would leave the cinnamon out. You will only need a small amount of Patch, otherwise it will overtake the blend.

Okay that's perfect b/c I've only a little patch left! (Like near-crisis levels, really.)

Do you think equal parts of each of lavender and cedarwood would be balanced?

That's what I thought too ... they seem to be complimentary rather than "competing."

I have been burning those two together in the diffuser this week so it is funny you chose that combo. I found a 2:1 ratio of lavender to cedar to be very nice. You might try mixing up a tiny amount and seeing if you like it. You can always adjust it if you don't.

Kari - Any updates on this ? I was wondering how it came out, curious to try the two together.

I used 1:1 lavender:cedarwood ratio but the lavender seems to have taken over as the cedarwood isn't very strong if detectable at all (based on who is smelling it I suppose).

So I think next time I'll do 2 parts cedar to 1 part lavender. I'm finding cedarwood to be a little more fleeting than I thought it would be. I recently did a cedar/grapefruit/lemongrass combo and the cedar does warm up the blend a little but again, doesn't seem to come through the way you'd think it would. Weird!

(The cedarwood EO comes from BB so I'm confident in its quality. I believe it's the Virginian type cedarwood EO.)
