Teach Soap

Hey Lucky,Try this website millennium-ark. Lots of soap recipes.I read one that called for 1 can 12 oz. red devil lye Heat 2 cups of water to boiling, then take it outside and add the can of lye till disolved.Heat 6lb. fat,they said 2 3lb. shortening cans till melted. Cool to hot,then pourwater and lye mixture together stirring till like mashed potatoes. No cooking.They lined a carboard box with a garbage bag,poured the soap in,covered it with trash bag for 24 hours,then uncovered to harden for couple weeks. Bennie thinks they cut it with a wire.This sounds easier than cooking it.later,Linda Lou

This recipe doesn't sound too good in my opinion. You need to run your oils through a lye calculator. Also, you never want to add your lye to hot water. It will heat on it's own through it's chemical reaction. If you water is hot you may have a volcano. In my opinion i wouldn't trust this recipe at all, but that's just my opinion.

Those recipes use lye that's no longer available as pure strength. Go to Miller soap for recipes and run ANY recipe through a lye calc. http://www.millersoap.com/
NEVER ever add lye to hot water! You will end up with a dangerous volcano!
Cold process soap without cooking will not look like mashed potatoes.

Always go by weight of oils and lye. Get yourself a good scale.
