I am getting ready to use micas for the first time. Does anyone have some tips or tricks?

I think you get a better, even mix if you pour a small amount of your soap into a container and mix it, then add that small amount back into the full amount that you want to color. But I must admit that I dont always do it that way, Lol

eta; if it is the irridescent type, it wont be as pretty in cp soap as in m&p, you wont get the sparkly

My first use of micas was only mildly successful. I liked the bright colors. However, I removed a small amount to color and had to stir and stir and stir to get it mixed in and not ended up with specks of color. In the mean time I am sweating it thinking my base color or the colored soap was going to set up too much to swirl. I put the base color in my loaf mold then poured the colored over the top. I thought I held the colored soap high enough to get some depth to the color in the base. Not so much. Next time I will try to swirl in the pot.

Also I was guessing how much to use and it seemed to end up purpler than it started. Will it dissolve in oil or water? I was looking for some help on Brambleberry but didn't find anything.

Micas usually disperse, not dissolve. You might have better luck mixing the micas with a little bit of glycerin first, then add that to the portion you are trying to swirl. Be aware that some micas morph, disappear or fade in CP soap.

Oh gosh. I was at Otion and the micas were so pretty. Maybe I should just go back to my Lab Colors. They seem kind of fool proof. I think I might have a garage sale of all the soap and candle stuff I just had to have and never use.

I just started using micas. I blend them with a tiny bit of OO before mixing into the batch. It is a learn while you do type thing. I do love the look of sparkle micas brushed on top of the finished soaps ;) So pretty.

I really like the muted color better than the more bright ones - what is the best source for that look? CP that is.... I havent really tried much color yet - only baby food carrots which turned out really nice and sassafras which i hoped would be green but turned a nice dark tan.... ^^

I just got a bunch of clays from ebay at a good price. Some places have outrageous prices, and some have great prices. You just have to look around.

I also like olive leaf powder for green, it doesn't give a bright green, but it sure is lovely. I get mine from Brambleberry, as well as my Kaolin and Bentonite clay.
