Teach Soap

I'm thinking of doing some embeds soon...

Quick question: can you use "older" (cured) soap for embeds? Or will it not "stick" in the fresh soap? I've got some pretty white and pink soap I'd like to cut up or shave into curls for some embeds, but it's about 3-4 weeks into it's cure time already. I've also got some patchouli/caramel colored soap that will be at least a month old before I can use it for the embeds I'm considering.

I've done older soap shavings added to a new batch. It worked out fine.

I'm probably not doing shavings with these ones ... probably little cubes or something like that. Crossing fingers it works!

Did it work? I've never tried cured embeds, but I'd like to. Can't wait to hear the results.

I haven't done it yet. I'm sorta chickening out. LOL! I guess I could just put a few pieces into one end of the loaf mold so I don't risk so much soap. If I try it I think I'll wet the soap pieces slightly with water first and make sure to gel though.

I don't want to do shreds with that one so not feeling confident I could keep the chunks from falling out...

I tried some 1/2" square chunks. It did not turn out well for me. After cutting the bars, they curled as they cured and the imbeds separated from the new soap. In using the bars after they cured, they tended to break easily.

I use older chips and chunks all the time and havent had an issue with separation. I dont wet anything. I've poured a layer of soap and then sprinkled them in, and I've mixed them into the batter and then poured the whole batter into the soap. No difference in how it worked.
