I am making a beer soap with pumpkin lager fo and am planning on using pumpkin in the mix too. I was wondering what amount I should use? Is 2 TBS ppo too little? How much have you used successfully? WIll it color well or should I add some anatto seed infusion with it to ensure a nice orange?
Thanks in advance for your assistance!

I made pumpkin soap with canned pumpkin puree once. But I think I was using discoloring FO also so I really can't tell how much pumpkin puree can color your soap. You can make it, spit some out and add anatto seed infusion to get more vibrant color and pot swirl it. That way you don't have to worried about not enough coloring with just pumpkin puree. HUm... funny how I don't remember how much pumpkin I used!

when I made a pumpkin soap last year I used 3 oz of canned pumpkin to 25 oz of oils. I am going to make this soap again, as soon as I get the house back to myself!

When I made soap with carrot puree I used a 2.5 oz. jar of baby food in place of part of my water. I made a 2# batch and used half & half for the rest of the liquid. I would imagine that you could determine how much water you need to dissolve your lye and use the rest as pumpkin puree. I can't wait to see your finished soap!!! :D :D :D

Well thanks Bubbles and Linda! I didnt get to make it last night, cuz when I opened my pumpkin I realized it was OLD! LOL. As in, expired last year! I went today to get some more, but the local store was out and since they had a bogo sale on kids clothes and I have a grandson about to turn one and a newborn niece, I HAD to shop! Then I was too tired to go to town and go to the big store! Now, of course tonight I am kicking myself for my prioritization, but this afternoon it sounded right!  So, it is moved back to tomorrow!

For anyone interested, I just finished my pumpkin and beer soap and I found this recipe on the soap queen blog (for pumpkin soap) http://www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body- ... ss-soap-2/

While I used my regular recipe, I did adjust my pumpkin puree amount to be more in line with her recipe. And I did add TD to part of the batch as well. Fingers crossed now, cuz I was so worried about overheating d/t the beer, that I may have pushed it the other direction. In fact, I am considering OP for the first time in my considerably long soap making history! Lol Hope those fairies like the Chardonnay!

Tammy is the pumpkin just for color or does it add a dimension to the feel and performance of the soap?

Mella, it is also for properties. Pumpkin is high in protein, zinc, vitamins A, C, E, anti-oxidants, and beta carotene. I over did my coloring, I think I added too much cherry bark powder. In fact, with the pumpkin pie spices, the pumpkin and the annato I probably didnt even need it at all. So now it is pretty dark. Next time I will know! Pics going up on the share thread here in a minute!

This recipe is my favorite of all and works great, last year not so much because the FO I used turned too dark, but this year I will pull some out before I add the FO no color needed they come great!
