Teach Soap

As mentioned , we just completed our first solo cold process soaping. For how horrid and soupy it looked when I was stirring it, it might have turned out into something usable. (I bought a immersion blender to hopeful expiated the process next time.) I followed the recipe from The Everything Soapmaking Book book. It is the two pound one.

I lined it with the trash bag as an afterthought when I was mortified by the aforementioned soupiness. The original mold, made personally by my partner (in crime) should work if the viscosity of the soap is better on the next batch. I suppose the proper soaper parlance is if the trace is better.

Not terrible for our first time by ourselves. I know, terribly noobie first try, but I was a little proud of us, and have elected to subject you all to my thread. ::insert maniacal laugh:: Trying again on Friday.

Well congratulations on your first batch, and welcome to the addiction! One thing though, you will always want to line your mold if it is a wood one.

Your soap looks fine - congrats! Now comes the hard part...waiting 4 weeks for it to cure so you can use it! I've made soap with that recipe and I don't think you'll be disappointed when it's ready to use.

Sadly, it did not turn out all that well in the end. (Sorry for the delayed response; it has been super crazy with school.) I did not have a stick blender, and I do not think that it congealed probably. The end result did not lather at all. Boo. Oh well, this was, after all, the first time.

I'm sorry to hear that.

I've used that recipe and it turned out very well, so don't despair! I do think you may need to invest in a stick blender - it makes the process so much easier.

That is the first thing I did when my soap failed. It payed great dividends when I made blue man soap. I will not despair quite yet . I want to give that recipe another go this week sometime, stuck blender in hand.

That's too bad that the batch didn't turn out. I would have recalculated that recipe and added a small amount of castor to boost the bubbles. Stick blender is the way to go.

Sorry to hear about that first batch. I still have some of my first batch that I will not allow anyone to have. Keep it to remind me where I came from. Keep trying - it does get better.
