So, I just finished some Salt Bars :) :) w/ a little bit of grapefruit and lime essential oils. I had them in the mold, uninsulated, and could see that they were getting cooler and harder pretty fast -- like 1/2 hour to an hour after I had molded them. the soaps never truly gelled. ( didn't want to do CPOP, just let them gel on their own)

I had soaped at about 90 degrees, which maybe was kinda cool...

I went ahead and cut the bars then, maybe too soon? But they seem fine -- only a little sticky. What do you guys think.. will it be a problem?

Thanks! Leah

I used regular table salt for mine, so you should be fine. They need to be cut soon after they are in the mold, otherwise you will end up with lots of crumbles.

Wouldn't the salt soap hurt your skin if you had a cut? Id like to try this in a small batch. I work for the postal service and am prone to paper cuts. Linda

I'm not soapbuddy, but they sound fine. FWIW, it's easy to do CPOP with salt bars - I do it just because I know, down to the minute, when I'll be cutting them. It takes the guesswork out.

Yes, Salt Soap and Salt scrub sting in cuts. Salt anything will sting in a cut.

Id like to try to make salt bars again. So my questions are
What superfat ratio should a salt bar be to acheve maximum lather? Majichands said her bars lather like crazy. My last attempt did not lather well. How long do I leave them in individual molds before I try to take them out? should I spray the molds first?
Will a little caster oil help lather in salt bars?

My salt bars don't lather like crazy, but they have a creamy lotiony feel.

i keep my superfat around 8-10%, and use at least 80% coconut. Higher superfats or lower percentages of coconut don't later as much, though they still feel nice. I don't think castor adds much to a salt bar - certainly not as effective as it is in regular soap.

Dear Majic Hands, sometime back you told me that your salt bars lather like crazy. Can you tell me how you acheve great lather? Mine we're not making much at all but Im ready to try again. So Im thinking 80% coconut oil, maybe a little shea butter and some olive oil, and table salt to equil the oils. 10% superfat. Does this look like it will be a good salt bar? With nice lather?

Should I spray indavidual molds first and how lond do I leave them in their molds. I've got the one of the naked woman in the fetal position. Which I think is charming but I don't try it with CP cause Im afraid I'll mess it up unmolding it.
