I got my order today from Brambleberry and noticed the palm oil comes in a tub. I've never used palm oil before, but I remember watching a Soap Queen video and the palm oil was in a bag and you had to put it in the microwave. Do I need to do the same thing with the tub? I tried to do a search on here for updates, but kept getting "sorry, you cannot search...."

Yes, you'll have to heat it and stir it. I heat mine up, stir well and then portion it out into 8oz and 16oz containers while its still liquid, that way I know exactly how much I have and don't have to heat and stir every time.

Brandy

PS-Of course I go by weight, not fluid oz, just so there's no confusion

It's easier to scoop it out of a tub than a bag. It's still the same and weighs the same. I wouldn't micro the whole tub each time. Just take out what you need.

Unless the palm oil is votated, you have to heat and stir it each time or the palm steric sinks to the bottom.

I'm assuming BB's palm oil needs to be heated and stirred each time then? Maybe I should email them and ask to make sure. The palm oil comes in little 1 lb. tubs-say I need 7 oz. for a batch. Can I scoop out 7 oz. by weight, then heat and stir...then add that to my other oils? Or do I need to heat the WHOLE tub first? :? :?

methree; all palm oil needs to be completely heated/melted, stirred very well, then separated out into smaller containers OR it needs reheated and mixed well every time you go to use it. Otherwise you run the risk of separation occurring. Then, when you get to the end of your container you will have an uneven amount of stearic and you will get soap on a stick.

yes, all of you were right...I have to heat the container and stir each time I use it. I didn't order a lot...just 2lbs. to try it out, so it won't take long to go through it.

Thanks!!

Is there some reason you don't use homogenized palm oil? Saves allot of work.

Hello everyone, I'm just joining the conversation. After reading this I am wondering about all of the previous batches of soap I have made. I buy organic palm (sold as shortening) in the natural foods section of my grocery store. My coconut oil too. I scoop them out and weigh the amount I need before melting. Both are non-hydrogenated. I only make 1 pound batches at a time so far, I'm just learning the ropes. My soaps been coming out well so far (I've made maybe 10 batches) would it be better if I melted then measured?
