Teach Soap

Impression mats made for fondant make lovely impressions for melt and pour. Do they work for CP soaps as well? Are the mats silicone?

Has anyone tried a rubber mat with soap? I'm wondering if rubber will hold up as well as silicone. Thank you for your thoughts on this.

I've used the Wilton mats for CP and it worked great! No warping or wear or anything, and the soap went through full gel.

I would assume rubber mat works too since we use plastic for soap making all the time. Maybe the safe thing to do is not to gel it? Keep temperature low?

Oh no that will never happen!

There are some pretty soaps on the thread here for showing your soaps that have nice imprints. They are the wilton silicone mats if I remember correctly, but they are very nice!

Mella, are you thinking of making your own mat? i have been contemplating this, but as you said the "to do" list is quite long. And I have not wrapped my head around the process enough to figure it out. I know I saw a blog were someone took a scrapbooking impression mat and made it into a silicone mat. Great idea except the impression mats I have are too small for my mold. Back to square one. It sure would be easier if wilton would just make some more fondant mats.

I have seen those, but if I remember correctly they are not large enough for my slab mold. What really works best is a smaller design with a frequent repeat pattern. I tried a couple of bars with the wilton star mat and it does not work as well as the other two. This is what I was thinking when I purchased it but decided to try it anyway. I'm sure I will use it but just not as much as the other two. What I really wish for is a mat with butterflies, one in a pasley design and one in a heart pattern. Think I will contact the wilton company and let them know!
