Have you used this oil? As if I needed another project I bought this oil today because of the beautiful color and the pricing was so good.

It lists the ingredients as Red Palm Fruit Oil first and Canola Oil second, no other ingredients at all. A product of Malasia and marked plantation palm source. It is done in the UK and shipped to GA for distribution.

So now I need to know how to figure out the sap values? Do you know of a soap calc that lists red palm fruit oil?

I would use the SAP of palm oil. Unrefined palm oil has more unsaponifiables, so you could go just a tad lower on the superfat.

Thank you Irena. This is a liquid palm oil not solid will that make a difference?

You're welcome. SAP of Palm Olein (which is liquid) is 0.141 and Palm Oil is 0.142. Very little difference. If you are using soap calc, you can use the "Crisco" shortening value as that is mostly palm oil and soy. If you like, after you have your formula, send me a PM and I'll run it through my calc on my computer.

I made a batch recently with 10% carotino, and it turned out beautifully. The carotino we get here (in Australia) has canola first, red palm second, on the ingredients list. I emailed carotino to ask for the ratio, but in spite of sending 3 or 4 emails, the person who replied was being very evasive! When I said I needed to know for the amount of sodium hydroxide, he just told me to use 1/2 and 1/2 carotino and copha (a coconut oil product). In soapcalc I entered 1/2 canola, 1/2 red palm, and allowed 12% sf, just in case. It did turn out fairly soft at first, and spent 3 days in the moulds, but it's good now, and the colour is fantastic.

Suzanne how beautiful and creamy they look. Thank you for sharing your experience. I'll try to get to this next week and report in! I love the color and the choice of molds! What fragrance if any did you choose?

Thanks ladies. I used buttered popcorn FO. The other oils I used were coconut 300g and olive 200g. Actually, I think that makes the carotino (50g) around 9%.
My corn was made in a mould I made from Brambleberry's moulding putty. I was very pleased with the way it turned out.
