Teach Soap

this is how it turned out and I might have to throw it out...booo! I'll try the zap test again in a few days because I tested it after I cut into bars and there was a slight burn. This was my first 100% milk soap too, I froze the buttermilk and added that to the lye....the lye solution was really weird looking (clumpy buttermilk) and was hard to tell if the all the lye got dissolved, so I just kept stirring and stirring. I thought all the honey was dissolved too but guess not, as there are specks of it throughout (see in pic).

oops...I said that wrong! Yes, I added the lye to the buttermilk and carrots. I put the lye pitcher in an ice bath too, and the color stayed orange...but it was curdled like you said (I couldn't think of the word!). The honey, I added to oils before adding lye. Now having thought about it, I used 1 tbsp and that might have been too much for 26 oz. of oils.

I think the soap looks great. Let it sit and cure... my guess it will be fine. With the buttermilk and the honey I am suprised it did not overheat. I wonder what the milk sugar content of buttermilk is? I have used goats milk, coconut milk and soy milk and get the curdled look from time to time, it still works out to be soap.

thanks Bubbles2...I hope it will be fine too! I'm not sure on the sugar content of the buttermilk (I threw the container out) but I remember it had a higher fat content than the gm. I also just started using a silicone loaf mold and it's been a challenge to gel.

to funny just baught baby carrots jar food to experiment with it, than somebody asked that question, good for me....I want to make carrot soap with fennel and maybe some rosemary...

Thanks, I was trying out a couple of my new molds....I love new molds!

I just tried again and this time I got really bright color! You can still see the tiny carrot speckles didn't get pureed fine enough...
