Teach Soap

1st question- I was reading previous post and ran across someone asking about melting palm first. I have never melted my palm prior to measuring, I have always just scooped it out and measured it that way. Could my measurements be off doing it this way. So once I melt it I can measure it and store it in another container for later use?

2nd questions- I know some make their lye/water ahead of time. I tried that last night and woke up this am to a gelled mess with flakes of lye?? floating. Any suggestions?

Unless you buy hydrogenized palm, the stearic acid will precipitate to the bottom of your bucket. When you get to the bottom, it will be mostly the stearic acid. Too much stearic acid in soap will turn it into a soap on a stick. I would melt it, stir very well, then portion off into ready to go sizes.

What was your strength of the premeasured lye/water combo? Was the container cleaned with soap and water before use? How old is your lye? Is the lye pure?
