Teach Soap

A friend of a friend is getting out of perfumery and is selling essential oils and what she calls "aroma chemicals". Is that something specific to perfumery, or just an odd term for fragrance oil? I'm wondering what these are and whether they are safe to use in soap.

Aroma chemicals are normally blended to create specific fragrance oils or perfumes. Undiluted, they are VERY strong and need to be diluted before use. There are no test results that I know of that indicate how well each aroma chemical reacts in soap. If you decide to use them in soap, start at 0.1 oz. (each or a blend total) per lb. of soap.

Thank you, soapbuddy! I'm quite wary of the information given by anyone trying to sell me something, but I'm being told that aroma chemicals are used exactly the same way as essential oils. The EOs and aroma chemicals are in both pure and diluted forms, but I was going to avoid the dilutions (and aroma chemicals altogether) because it seemed unwise to add unnecessary alcohol to MP. Would you agree that these are probably not safe to sell, since enough testing hasn't been done?

I would not sell aroma chemicals unless you have done a lot of research. These are not normally used for soapmaking or B&B products. They are sold to those that make their own perfumes and are familiar how to dilute them or work with them. They could be dangerous to the general public as they are not used the same way as fragrances (pre-made) or essential oils.
