Teach Soap

Hello Everyone:
This is my first post and I'm really excited about my found interest. My question is this, I recently found Rose water and Orange blossom water at a local farmers market and I was wondering if I can use this in my CP - ie add it to my water/lye solution. Can someone tell me what the advantages and/or disadvantages of this is? Will using this affect the recipe and if so how? What type of soap can I expect to get. Thanks

Welcome!
Don't waste it in soap. It would get eaten up by lye. The scent would not come through. Save them for a nice toner for yourself.

I was wondering if there is a website out there where it lists the different oils and their advantages & disadvantages. What oils make soaps harder or softer, which are best for dry skin, eczema, oily skin etc. I was reading a FANTASTIC post by soapbuddy to all of us newbies, and one of the things she recommends is that we familiarize ourselves with the different oils, the list she gave gives us great info on their shelve life etc but I would also like a list that would list how they react when used in soap so I can make a decision as to which oils I would rather use.

Thanks for the tips, should I just google soap making software or is there one that is better than others etc. I know there are a ton of books and I've purchased a couple but none really give me the kind of info for instance that you did.

Thank you the information is great! I also decided to get the software and I'm glad I did. I do have another question: I just purchased some muffin pans at a yard sale that I thought would make great guest soaps. The pans are made out of tefflon is this o.k. to use with CP soap? or would it react with the lye?

Hi sudsylady! The teflon will probably react. The only things that are non-reactive with the lye are stainless steel, glass, silicone and plastic (must be able to withstand the heat of the soap). If you eat the individual serve fruit cups (delmonte, walmart brand, etc) those containers make perfect sized soap. I've used them many times for both CP and MP.

I know the voices in my head aren't real, but they sure have some great ideas!

Teflon will react with lye and over time will flake into your soap. I would use plastic, wood or silicone for your molds and heavy duty plastic pitcher to mix your lye water in. Don't use glass! Over time glass will develop micro tears and will shatter.
