Good Morning,

Is there a right or wrong way to list ingredients on soaps. If I'm using a M&P base with coloring and oil, am I listing everything? Thank you.

If your mp base qualifies as soap and not a cosmetic, then you only have to list soap, weight, address of where it's made.
You'd have to contact your mp base supplier to see if it's a soap or cosmetic. Some mp bases are considered soap by the fda & some are considered cosmetics.
If it's a cosmetic then you need to list all the ingredients of the base and anything you add to it. If you're adding color you need to list the actual colors.

I do have to say as a customer, I will not buy anything if the ingredients aren't listed due to allergies.

I will be using BB and Natures Garden. I heard they are good companies. What do you think and are they considered a cosmetic or soap? I have read so much material and just want to do it the right way.

What do you think about Wholesales Supply Plus for purchasing product?

Thank you.

BB is awesome for so many things :) You'd have to ask them if their base is considered soap by the fda, though, I think they are from looking at a lot of the ingredients, but I'm not positive.

Natures Garden Candles mp bases are considered soap by the fda. They are a really great company, too. That's actually where I get my base from.

NGC & BB are my 2 favorite companies because they have excellent customer service, which is hard to find these days.

WSP, I used to be a big fan and shopped their a lot, but I feel now that their customer service is lacking and too much inconsistency in products, pricing and store policies. So, I've switched pretty much all my biz to BB & NGC.

That is awesome, at least i know i'm getting good products. Can i ask you about pricing? I'm not sure and i have read that people by soapmakers 3 software to help them with their pricing and general things for their business. What would you suggest? Thank you.

I don't use soapmaker 3, or any of the soapmaker programs, so I can't give any advice on that.

I started off by using one of the spreadsheets from here
http://www.ziggurat.org/soap/calculators/
I used that as a template to make my own for the ingredients I use.
If you're good with excel, it's an excellent tool for soapmaking :)

I used this spreadsheet also for a very long time and it worked for me. I recently bought Soapmaker3 as I sell more now and I'm quite happy with it too :)

I purchased all of my products at WSP before discovering BB. For the most part, their products are pretty good, but not quite up to the standard where I like my products to be. BB's bases have less "junk" (propylene glycol, SLS) in them and have a nicer lather. The two are about the same on fragrance and essential oils---I'm happy with most of what I've gotten, with a couple of disappointments from both. I've also used WSP's color bags, cello bags, and an assortment of things like citric acid, Dead Sea Salt, etc. They all perform well, but for formulated things like soap base, I'll always go with BB.

I prefer MP bases from BrambleBerry. Wisteria Lane has some nice bases as well, but their shipping to me is high. Even though BB MP base is a true soap and I don't have to list ingredients, I still do. Lot of people will not buy handmade/hadcrafted soap without an ingredient label.

WSP has recently changed their MP base ingredient label, so I'm a little leery.
