Thanks, Bubbles2 and mella! I bought my mom a bar of soap made with eucalyptus and clove at a farmer's market last year and she just loved it, so I thought I would give the combo a try myself!

Mella, I had heard that clove accelerates trace, so I was a bit worried about that. I didn't notice any problems, though. It did reach trace fairly quickly - within about 2 minutes of stick blending and hand-stirring it was at about a medium trace. (I added my EOs to my cooled oils before combining with the lye solution.) No seizing or ricing, though, and the acceleration was not so swift that I couldn't work with it. My blend was about 40% clove and 60% eucalyptus. I used each sparingly, too, because I was afraid of overdoing it.

It hasn't changed color so far. It still looks like my photo, but the soap is only two days old. I read somewhere that clove oil can darken over time. I used clove leaf versus clove bud, so I wonder if there is a difference between the two, color-wise?

My EO blend may need tweaking, but we'll see how it goes. Guess I'll see in about six weeks!

So glad to hear that it is manageable as I would love to try it one day. I don't have clove, looked and what I thought was clove is anise! Oh well all in good time! Thanks jrose I hope it cures well and the color holds!

Oh oh, I got both EO, will have to try this mix, what's the % of each?

Pretty colors cat040876! For a 0.5 oz of a blend, I would not use more than 0.1 oz. of clove.
