Has anyone tried BB's new Foaming Bath Butter yet? 8)

I've tried several batches, each with a mix of several kinds of "light" oils (Sweet Almond, Apricot Kernel, Light Olive Oil) but the finished product seems to come out rather grainy which surprised me - almost like a very light exfoliator! Is it my choice of oils or the amount used that could be the cause of this? Granted, I also experimented with varying amounts of oils from the norm of 1-2oz oil per pound of Foaming Bath Butter but as far I as know, addition of oil shouldn't do this, should it?

It's rather frustrating not being able to get that light, whipped and non-grainy feel yet.

I've also been reading that foaming bath butter doesn't aerate properly if whipped with anything less than a pound. This part, I don't have any difficulty with. But it has also been said that we should add fragrance oils during the whipping process - that's where my problem arises. How do add fragrance in small amounts? Whipping the fragrance in seems just impossible to do for 2- 4 oz sample-sized jars for gifts! Any ideas anyone? :?:

Hi peevish -

If you call the customer service at Brambleberry the ladies are more than welcome to help you. Anytime I've called with questions regarding a product I've bought from there they have been able to answer all my questions.

Hmmm.... I have not had it go grainy on me....

We usually recommend .3 ounces of fragrance per pound (although I have used a little more and it was fine) and 1oz of carrier oil per pound. Although that really shouldn't make a difference in the grainy-ness.

One of the girls at the warehouse emailed our vendor and got this in response;

Sometimes there is a very slight gritty feeling is likely part of the stearic acid that re-solidified faster than some of the lower point liquids. If it really bothers someone they can heat the base and let it cool it will dissolve. Without heating it should rub right into the skin.

If you give BB a call I am sure they can help you troubleshoot it as well. Sometimes it is a bit easier on the phone. Let me know if there is anything else you need! =)

Hey there,

Thanks for all your responses - unfortunately, I live halfway across the world and our times are quite different! I'm probably going to try emailing some time.

My bath whip even with different kinds of oils (I initially thought it because of the oil choice) still turns out like there're bits of sand in them. Does humidity play a big role in this? I'm living in tropical climes with high humidity!

I'm not sure how much to heat the base though, as you've suggested. I've tried it with other brands, and have got it go extremely hard and flat when cooled.

I put my entire bucket(I think mine are 8lb buckets?) in the kitchen sink with scalding hot water and let it sit until the water cools. Then I whip it with the handmixer(in the bucket) to make sure all the ingredients are mixed together evenly again & it returns back to it's regular non-gritty state =)
