Teach Soap

I'm in a boutique sale this weekend. For this sale you drop off on Thurs and pick up on Sunday after the sale. I'm very curious to see how it will go with someone else selling my product.

I've done a few of those over the years, and really enjoyed the fact that I didnt have to stay all day! Although, I admit that I wondered how it was going all day the first time.

I just did a small craft fair and brought mostly Easter themed products and I made twice of what I thought I would.

I stopped by there today and they had things laid out poorly IMO. They didn't keep same with same enough so everything got kind of watered down visually. OTOH they were talking about my product with customers in detail so we'll see. Two more days to go.

One of the funny things that happened is the woman that is running the sale did a trade with me. For part of her soap she got a black sheep and a white sheep. She then said that she wished I had a 'bi-racial' sheep as she has bi-racial children. So I told her that I'd be happy to make her a couple gray ones. I thought it was a very sweet way of doing things. My child is adopted and there are all sorts of things - like bring in a baby picture to school or family trees- that can be awkward.

Well I made 8 bucks over my entry fee... oh well

Well not great but I did decide on a few things if I ever worked with them again. I have to be able to set up my own table- their display was very poor. Also think I will do baskets only instead of individual bars since I'm not there to sell. I would try them once more if they have a good date picked out. Right now they are talking about Sept/Oct rather than closer to Christmas.

That's a little too soon for Christmas gifts. People aren't really thinking about the holiday yet.

Is there anyway to find out how they did overall? Maybe there would be better venues for your soap? I would have some questions like why did they not do this a little before valentines day, before mothers day and again after thanksgiving... in time for the Christmas holidays. Just would make sense to me.

Well this was set up to be right before Easter/ Mother's Day. I suppose I could check in with her again, but I know I will be contacted. I was hoping to use the show to get a better feel for which shapes would sell at the big sale. My big sale is just around the corner now on the 30th. Hopefully I guessed right about what to make. Sadly my friends and family are not soap people. They are a bad test market. Little sales have given me some info though. In the end I guess you just have to take some chances.

I have tried those and also tried leaving some in shops around town, always felt my products were not displayed well. I would set them up but they would always end up changed around. Never made much and had a lot of products damaged due to sunlight and heat as I live in Florida. Home parties have been where I have made most of my money outside of my website and word of mouth.
