Teach Soap

I bought BB's 12-bar silicone mold a while back, and after the first batch of soap, I noticed that the FO I used is "stuck" in there. I've washed it several times by hand, run it through the dishwasher... but still the smell lingers. I made an unscented batch of soap in it, and the fragrance actually transfers to my soap! (in case it matters, the FO was BB's Fresh Snow.)

What am I doing wrong? Should I grease the silicone molds first, or wash them a certain way? Or is the Fresh Snow FO the culprit? Kind of a bummer, because I don't really like that fragrance that much.

How much fragrance per lb. of soap did you use? I haven't had the same problem. Try rubbing the mold with a paste made from baking soda and water.

The normal .5oz per lb of soap I always use, nothing crazy.

I'll give the baking soda thing a go.

This is my first silicone mold, but I have another one on order. I hope this was a fluke thing and won't be a regular occurrence.

Interesting - I've been using that mold obsessively for the last couple of months and my mold doesn't smell like anything.

Did the fragrance leach out and drop out at all? Like, were there little fragrance drops on the top or the mold when you pulled the soap out?

The same thing happened to me the other day, Dragons Blood stuck in my 12-bar mold. I did a bleach water solution and let it set in there for about 5 minutes, then ran it through the dishwasher (top rack) and it came out.

I actually got the fragrance out by letting it sit in salt water (wish I had bothered to measure how much salt! I just winged it) and then rewashing it again. I remember reading somewhere that a woman cleans her old amber glass FO bottles this way, so I thought to give it a try.

I have since soaped with Lemongrass EO in this mold, and it did not "stick" - so maybe it's not the mold, but the Fresh Snow FO??

Also, Anne-Marie, there was no leaching out of the FO that I remember or any "droplets" to speak of.
