Hello All,

I wanted to know what is the preferred packaging materials you folks who sell handcrafted soaps use specifically at retail clients? We at Joyful Soaps have used vellum paper with our ingredients and other information on the vellum paper, and then a colorful ribbon and a business tag attached to the ribbon. For your retail clients--where you want to catch the attention of visitors/customers of your clients, do you expose a fair amount of your soap and go with minimal packaging? Our soap is very creative, offers rich texture and eye-catching designs, with attractive schemes. We are looking at using another type of paper and making it considerably less wide.

Any suggestions for type of paper and packaging techniques that have worked for any of you, also taking into account costs and time involved?

My wife, who makes these handmade soaps, would greatly appreciate your input.

Thank you so much!

Sincerely,

Michael Hughes

I use white soap boxes with an oval cutout and light green label. I prefer to keep it simple. The soap shows through the oval cutout and keeps it clean in a retail environment. If it's time consuming, I would have to charge more for my soaps, which I won't do at this time.

I use wax paper or stretch wrap with labels.

I use clear recycled resealable plastic bags the size of a gift card, this way you can see them, smell them and yet keep them clean :P

I wrap them with cellophane, similar to PJ's instructions here: http://www.pjsoaps.com/1TipsTricks.html

I prefer this because like you, my MP soaps are highly decorative and I want people to be able to see the whole design. To finish it off, I print my own labels, attach them to folded cardstock, glue that to the side the cellophane crease is on, and tie it off with macrame string.

I used to use cellophane bags (kind of like the candy bags that are 2/$1.00 in gas stations), but the soaps would smear and after people handled them, they looked less appealing.

I just looked at your packaging on the website and I like it just the way it is.

Thank you very much for your compliment! We appreciate your observation. Sometimes it helps to get outside perspective when you are really in the middle of the business.

I wish you the best!
