Teach Soap

I'm doing a tiny show right before Easter so I'm using it as an opportunity to try out some soap geared towards kiddos. My plan is to do packs of 4 small soaps. So I know for certain that I will be doing packs of 4 little robots and last night I worked on something that is essentially a 'fish in an ice cube'. Have folks tried marketing 'packs' for kiddos? What are folks willing to spend on a kiddo?

While several of my soaps have a "fun" vibe that would be good for kids, I currently only sell one loaf-style soap that is specifically geared for the little ones. I slice them relatively thin, making each one a little less than 3 oz. People gladly buy them for $2.95 each. My prices are pretty low, but I'm still trying to establish a customer base... I expect you could easily charge more.

I sold coal over Christmas at another tiny sale, but it was literally hand over fist. The coal was $4. I'm not sure though whether it was for kid or adult stockings. I'm so disappointed the big craft sale I'm doing is the weekend after Easter. But these tiny ones are good times to play.

I'm doing some Easter egg soaps and Easter egg bath bombs that I made using the little plastic Easter eggs.
I also have some little Easter rabbit soaps that I do for Easter & Easter themed lip balms.
If I'm doing packs, then I try to keep it under $5.

We sell the traditional "fish in the bag" soap for $7.50 and its our best seller, better right now than our soap pops at $8.25.

Yup, the grandma/auntie approach makes sense. Can I ask your source for goldfish? I'm not wild about mine. How many oz are your goldfish in a bag?

Its 3 oz of soap for $7.50. We also sell this product in bulk for "Mom's" looking for loot bag gifts. But mostly Grandma's buy it for their grandkids.

Either way, its out best selling kids line.

Just spent some time trying to hunt down good fish again. Years ago I knew where to get great vinyl fish and now I can't find them. I do have squirting rainbow trout and I've also thought about doing clown fish. Neither of those have the carnival appeal of course. I think I will do some pirate stuff soon, but not for this show. I wonder what the 'girlie' counterpart to pirates is. Anyway I think that I'd be doing $10 sets at that point. I'm wondering if you can push the kiddie market that hard. I suppose it depends on the time of the year.

BTW Margo, I keep going back to your site and your soaps are soooo cool.

You could always do soap fish.
I'm one of those people who like the entire soap, to be soap. I'm always afraid that some kid's going to choke on the fish. I know that people usually put "to watch children carefully," or something similar, but it still kind of scares me.

Not that I have any advise on these soaps, but just wanted to say this took me back to my childhood. I won one of those fish and he lived for 3 years! That is really good life span for a goldfish. Thanks for the memories.
