I was trying to make a nice, clear but tinted soap, but mine turned out so cloudy! What am I doing wrong? It's clear when I pour it, but cloudy when I unmold it (don't get me started on how hard it was to unmold these...)

Image

P.S. Do you think I could spray Pam or something inside to mold to release the soap easier? It took me repouring it once and then 20+ minutes to unmold it!!!

Sometimes it's the fragrance oil that creates the clouding. I've personally found that ones with vanilla seem to get more cloudy then others. I try not to over stir as well and use a clear fragrance(sometimes they're orangish or yellowish naturally based on the notes that make up the FO). Good luck!

I used a clear Margarita fragrance..... I doubt it has any vanilla, but I could be wrong. Any other ideas?

I've seen some margarita fo's with vanilla in, so I'd check that first. Also, overheating the base can make it cloudy.
What kind of color are you using? There may be something with that that's making it cloudy.
Did you stick the mold in the freezer to try to get the soap out? Just asking because I've seen that make soaps cloudy sometimes, also.

What mp base are you using?

I agree with wintermoon, it could still be the margarita & If its a craftstore base, that could explain it. FD&C colors produce a clear stainglass look, others could produce a more cloudy color. =)

It's the clear base from soapylove I bought on BB...the fragrance is from Go Planet Earth. I quite possibly heated it too much- i made one, couldn't get ti out of the mold so had to 'extract' it with a knife, then remelted and repoured. I did put it in the freezer-- it is taking an act of God to get those d#$n things out of the mold!!!

Okay, Go Planet Earth says there's not vanillin in that fo.
If the soap was reheated that a lot of times leads to cloudiness.
But the freezer can do it too, not always, but sometimes.

Sometimes if you pour too hot, the soap is a pain in the butt to get out of the mold. But it could be that your mold is just a pain in the butt, what kind is it?

Are you adding the fragrance before or after melting the soap? Could be a factor if you're adding it beforehand.

Make gravity work for you in getting soap out of molds. Help it along by breaking the seals along the sides and letting the air pockets expand. I got really impatient with this. Now I can pop soap out of almost any mold. Fun!

WAHHHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! I GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! <Can you tell I'm excited?!?!

This time I melted the soap in 30 sec sets at 50% power (I think that really helped) and poured as soon as it came out. I let it set for an hour or two and then put it in the freezer. I meant to only put it in the freezer for a few minutes but forgot it for about 20 minutes. I pulled it out, immediatly ran hot hot water over the mold and inverted it (braced on the counter) and pulled! I can't believe it worked so well that time and was crystal clear to boot!!
