Hi all! I've been looking around and just can't wait to get started!! I'm starting out with M&P soaps this first round and I want a colorant for the clear base that isn't going to act up and preferably won't cost me a ton to start with! I saw the Jewelry Box set of colorants on the SoapyLove website (which is what got me started on this whole thing!) but it indicated they would belled in clear M&P. Is it not too much bleeding? What would you suggest?

TIA!
Marie

I haven't tried SoapyLove colors, but do you use BrambleBerry's micas regularly.

Hi, Marie, and welcome!

I really like BB's liquid colors because they're so easy to use: http://www.brambleberry.com/Liquid-Colors-C44.aspx. The colorant is already mixed with glycerin so all you have to do is squeeze the bottle to add the colorant drop-by-drop (you may need to shake the bottle up first, though, since the glycerin and colorant can separate).

Micas are fun, too, especially in clear base because they're all sparkly.

Oxides or pigments tend to not bleed. Some micas bleed, some don't. BB usually notes if a colorant bleeds or not. I haven't used the Soapylove colors, either, so I can't help you there. If a colorant is FD&C-based, it will probably bleed.

BB has a category of non-bleeding colorants, if you're looking specifically for colors that won't bleed: http://www.brambleberry.com/Non-Bleedin ... -C303.aspx

Hope that helps! Have fun!

I've found that they do bleed ... some of them quite a bit! I thought I'd give a couple a try and see what they were like. I used the Soapylove blue and made a thin sheet - cut out large stars with a cookie cutter and embedded the stars into clear ... that was about 4 months ago and all I have left is very blue soap! LOL - It's not like I didn't know but I had to try it for myself :) The other colours I've tried bleed too which is such a pity as the colours are such brilliant shades! If you use your soap quickly enough you won't notice though lol

There's a place that sells good micas, oxides, glycerin based colorants at: www.tkbtrading.com they also tell you on the information zone,if they're for soap, lotion, etc. and if they bleed or not, ETC. They have great service. And the colors are not expensive at all. Check EM out!!!

Wow- thanks for all the tips! I looked at the Pop Micas, but their sampler kit is out of stock, and quite frankly I'm having a hard time navigating the website! :/

Ugh... :| that would figure. I'm probably stressing way way too much over this, but I really want this to turn out well! In that case, would you suggest a basic set of the micas on their website I could start with and mix to make other colors? I'm concerned they might color soap a different shade that what I see in the pot... did I mention I'm a perfectionist?

Yeah, the Soapylove Jewelry Box colors bleed bigtime. I didn't realize when I bought them. Awww...so sad! They are sooo pretty though! Next I'll have to get some micas going. Gotta save some bucks first. :)

Let us know which colors you decide to get and show off your final product, militmom01!

To: militmom01 Ok,I looked at their website and they are discontinued like SoapBuddy said, but that's because they're reformulating them. Kaila W. says on the note she put that they will be back very soon. So don't get impatient. Those pop micas are very good. Especially the price!!! You get a full tablespoon for only $1.50 of each and if you get the sampler package I think it's cheaper. Anyways

You say that it's hard for you to navigate on that page,I'll try to help you on that.
1. Look on the" Browse Category "that's on the left hand side of your screen and hit it. A screen should come down saying all the stuff they have.
2. Then hit it where it says micas and then the page will pop up
3. Then on the top right of the sreen it has page numbers. Hit "SHOW ALL". Then all the micas they have should pop up.
For the Liquid Soap Colorants
1. Go to the left corner and hit the "Browse Category" again and then scroll down to were it says Glycerin-Dispersed Liquids and they should come on and then do the same as number 3 for micas.

I hope this helps you.

Hi,
I don't know where you live, but Peak Candle Supplies in Colorado sell POP! Micas. They ship order UPS the same day, candles & soap supplies.
There soap supplies are limited. http://www.peakcandle.com/category/Bath ... rants.aspx 1 oz is $7.20.
I just love POP! Micas!
