I made some MP Soap with Dried Chamomile Flowers and after a couple of days the Chamomile turned like brown. Does anyone know what happened? What do I need to do?

Hi wildchild! That's normal. About the only plant that doesn't turn brown is calendula. Everything else will turn brown eventually. There's nothing wrong with your soap.

Yes - I found my Rosemary turning brown as well, and I thought maybe I didn't dry it well enough. But the good news is, I just purchased a 1 lb. bag (it is huge!!) of calendula and can't wait for a good recipe for using this and displaying it's beautiful orange color!! Does anyone have a great recipe for M&P soap with calendula?

Lavender buds do this too. My soap looked like it had brown poops.

I thank all of you for helping me out  Now another question popped up. Does the chamomile get rotten in there or does it just turn brown? Thanks

You could always infuse the chamomile in oil and add the oil to your soap instead.

This may be just another DUH question, but how do you know how much oil to use to how much calendula/herbs, and how do you know when its done?

Depending on how fast I want to use the infused calendula there are two methods that I use:

1- cold infusion: I put about 1/4 cup of the herb in a mason jar. Fill the jar with oil of your choice and just enough to fill right above the herbs. I like to use olive oil but any other oil will do. I seal my jar - label with date and let it sit on the window sill for about 2 weeks (more is always better) and I shake the jar once a day and check that everything looks good.

2- with crockpot: I fill the bottom of the crockpot (just enough to cover) with my herbs and my choice of oil. Set the crockpot on Low for 2 hours and let it sit overnight. Strain and use.

This is basically how I do it also, although I'm more of a Sunflower Oil gal and I leave mine usually closer to a month.
