Teach Soap

FYI: Unless you want soap that smells like a fresh corn tortilla, don't rebatch soap that has cornmeal in it. One of my first batches of cold process was a "kitchen hands" soap with citrus essential oils and cornmeal. (I did not know then that lemon and orange do not stay without an anchor scent.) After four weeks, the citrus scent was gone, so I thought I could just melt it down, add more essential oil, pour into the mold, re-harden, and get the same soap. Nope! The cornmeal toasted in the oven while the soap melted, so now we have tortilla-smelling soap. It doesn't smell bad, just not what I had in mind!

Q: If I use lemongrass, lemon, eucalyptus, and rosemary essential oils in the next batch, will the smell stay? I really liked the smell of the original and want to wash the garlic off my hands with it.

Oh no! I'm sorry, but that struck me as funny. Yes, your blend should work.

Oh yes, it is very funny, esp since I make fresh tortillas all the time. It just goes with the kitchen ambiance, I guess.

Not laughing at your situation, just laughing....well, nope I guess we are laughing at your situation, your new, foodie scent! Chocolate, key lime pie, and tortilla chips! I think you should sell the formula!

I have to say, I have never made such a nice mistake! I think you were fortunate, it could have either not worked at all, or smelled like dirty feet or something like that. At least you got a scent you can tolerate. You could even market it as a specialty soap and sell it. So really, we laugh, but it isn't that bad!
