Teach Soap

Hola! So, my mother is demanding I make her grapefruit soap. HOWEVER she is currently on cholesterol meds and cannot have real grapefruit, so I need to find an FO. I found the Grapefruit Lily on Brambleberry and it says the Lily is stronger than the grapefruit, which she will not be excited about Anyone know a good FO that's a true grapefruit scent? Thanks!

Unless she will be eating the soap, I don't think you will have a problem making soap with it. Soap is a wash off product. It doesn't stay on the skin long enough for the grapefruit EO to get absorbed.

This is not something I'd recommend, no matter how good it looks or smells

I do really like the pink grapefruit fo. To me it smells a lot like pink grapefruit. But I only sniff grapefruit, I don't eat it.

Even though you could use a grapefruit eo in the soap, as cholesterol meds won't be interfered with by the eo unless she is taking it internally, they tend to not hold well in cp soap. The BB pink grapefruit fo is really good. I just used it in a test batch and I loved it. I am a 99.9% eo user, so for me to say that I liked it means something!
*as a side note, I disagree with SB. I believe that eo's can be harmful or helpful in soaps, even though they are not on the skin long. In this case though, the reason for her to stay away from grapefruit is not affected by the eo, unless she were to ingest it.

My DH is on cholesterol & BP meds and his doc says that he should not have any problems with citrus based soaps or lotions including grapefruit. I've known this doc for a long time and he knows that I make soaps and lotions.

SB, I think you may have misread my reply, I agree w/ you in this instance, the person would have to ingest the grapefruit juice or eo in order for it to interact with the medicine for high cholesterol, so there is no reason to not use it in soaps, lotions, etc. But I still like the scent of BB's pink grapefruit fo, and given that citrus tends to fade in soap, I think it's a more economical solution too. Or you could use some eo to back up the fo. But man, that fo smells really good!

I used the two together and yes, they really do smell very similar, which is why I liked the FO so much! Until I found BB I was an essential oil purist, I am now being slowly but surely pulled away

I always thought myself an EO purist too - never entertained the notion of FOs instead, but I think I could get down with the blend...
