I tried to make soap again, this time no goats milk, but I tried a FO. When I first started stirring the oils and lye, I thought this is going to be fine, then I stick blended for maybe 5 seconds, it turned into applesauce immediately. I glopped it in the mold anyway. This morning I took the towels off and it was still very hot, and squishy. I have left them off for a few hours now and its starting to set up. I can only imagine what its going to look like when unmolded. Not very hopeful on this one, but Ill keep plugging away. Pretty sure it was my FO, everything else was weighed out exactly, my temps were both at 100* which amazed me, that I managed to get them both at the same temp, without all the stress of my last attempt! Good, bad or ugly, Ill post pics in a few days, this is a learning forum after all...unless it ends up in a bowl when I unmold!

It may turn out fine. Don't give up, we've all been there.

I've had a couple of batches look like applesauce when I poured them, but after they gelled and cooled they looked fine. :P

I hope it turns out for you. I would do the zap test after you get it out of the mold.

I couldnt stand it 1 more minute, I just put it in the freezer for an hour and unmolded, the lighting is bad in here for taking pics, but I think it will be ok after curing a bit more. I didnt cut it very nice, but I was just eyeballing it, need to make a cutter, I cant cut bread straight either! Its really zappy to the tongue...will that go away with time? It was in a downspout mold, so it wasnt getting any air.

Thanks, Im ok with it! I used a downspout with melted wax at the base. but I need to clean up the top of it its really rough right now. The one on the left is round, middle is downspot, and I slightly melted the one on the right in the oven and made it oval. Will the PH go down now that it has air circulation?

Give it a day or two. If it still zaps, your can try to rebatch it with more oil or just trash it so you don't waste any more ingredients.

Quite inventive with the molds, and the soap looks really good!

Thanks guys for the encouragement!
I really had no idea what size to make them, so each is 12" long, with about an inch of wax in the bottom. Even when I used my homemade wooden molds, I keep another at the ready in case I have too much. I was really concerned about unmolding with that wax at the bottom, so I froze it for an hour, trimmed ithe excess off the outside then ran a paring knife around the inside by the wax, put it on top of my plastic coffee creamer canister and pushed down, it came sliding out as smooth as you please! Oh and I used vaseline inside, after the wax had set. I REALLY want to make some with the textured tops, but until I figure out how to get a nice trace without it seizing or becoming applesauce, Im just not ready!
I had a slight bulge in my downspout in the morning, where it was hottest, Im thinking either use 2, cut this one in half so theres not so much surface area, or put some sort of band around the middle like a zip tie to keep it in place. The end piece of soap up against the wax was just slightly bowed down, but not really noticeable since the wax was smooth, so no end piece to cut off. The top however was really ugly! Still looked like applesauce, just hardened. The molds are not my original idea, I have been scouring the net for months before I ever started.

I really like the wavy sides on the soap! I think I'll buy a piece of downpout the next time I go to Lowes.

When I make soap in a milk carton, the top isn't always nice and smooth, so I just trim it and put the scraps into a sealed container. When I have enough different scraps I'm going to mix them into a batch of CP to make confetti soap. 8)
