Have you tried the zap test on it?

I superfat by 5%

I hadn't tried the zap test until just now bubbles, thanks for suggesting...
I am not very experienced in this so i'm not too sure.... but i think it was a
zap I got......but i'm really not certain....

What should I do to be sure/safe????

It's a goat milk, honey and oatmeal soap I made with almond oil, jojoba oil and avocado oil among other oils
I would really hate to trash it, any suggestions?

Sharon

If you got zapped, believe me you would know.

Ok so I just did a PH test using PH strips and got a
PH reading of what looks like 10 to me on the darker
parts of the soap. When I tested the white-ish lumps
I got a reading of what looks like 13 or 14....
I'm thiniking that might be too high and may have to cut those parts
out and use those bars that have no white lumps in it.....
This is only my second batch, hope I have better luck in the future!

A reading of 13 or 14 sounds like those parts are lye heavy. Can you rebatch?

I didn't realize that lye heavy soap would give an acidic reading
I thought it would give a PH of 1-4 if it was lye heavy.

Yes I can rebatch and will do so as long as there is no problem with
the oat or honey, I better get grating....

I just went and took a look at my notes. Lye has a pH of 14, so yes, I would say your soap is lye heavy.

Ph of a neutral substance is 7. If something is acidic it will be less than 7. If it is a base (alkaline) it will be greater than 7. Lye is a base.

Oh my I had that all wrong, thanks for sharing the info, now I know!
You guys rock!
Anyhow, I think i'm gonna try rebatching soon,
this soap I made especially for my 4 year old who has eczema.
So I was wondering what would be the best liquid to use in my rebatch?
Goat milk? Oil? E.O of any type? And how much for 4lbs of soap?

Also, can I place this in the freezer or just insulate?

:?: :?: If a batch is lye heavy, can it really be fixed by rebatching? How would one know how much additional oil to add to combine with the 'free lye'? Or would you just continue to rebatch until you did not get a zap? I'm thinking that if I ever have a lye heavy batch (lets hope the soap gremlins spare us on this) I would be inclined to toss it.
