Ok. Here's the deal. I'm sick of paying $20+ for my lavender candles ... when I can find them not glopped up with some other fragrance.

So I'm going to make my own. Not brain surgery. I'm going to use soy wax. I understand (I hope) the wick quandary. These will all be container candles as—the Lord knows—I've a ton of empty ones.

It's the fragrance that's got me stumped. All I want is a pure fragrance, that doesn't smell chemically (like the most recent one I bought) Now, I do know I buy one specifically for candle making, and the max I should use is 1 ounce per 1lb of wax.

But which one? I've Googled lavender oil ... and I'm lost lost lost. Boohoohoohoo. Highland lavender oil? $20 per ounce? Holy smokes, I might as well just keep buying my lavender candles.

Help me all you clever clever people out there that have figured all this stuff out already!

Thanks v. much in advance.
OMom.

P.S. I HAVE read the essential oils thread...and that helps a little. I really need a lavender fanatic out there that can advise me which one is the "best" and how much I should pay. Thanks.

Are you looking for an Essential Oil? If so, I don't know of any Lavender EO's that don't smell kind of medicine-like. Any of the descriptions that say "Herbal" are going to smell like medicine.

I've only found a few Lavender Fragrance Oils that don't smell like medicine. Gelluminations has a Lavender Fields that to me smells like flowers, not medicine. They've got a 50% off sale on their FO's right now (I think it ends tomorrow, I'm not positive).

Essential Oils are more expensive than fragrance oils. For fragrance oils, I would never pay more than $4 an ounce. I usually don't pay even close to that much, but that's usually my limit.

BrambleBerry has a Lavender fragrance oil that's specifically made for candles. Check it out. http://www.brambleberry.com/Lavender-ca ... P2963.aspx

THANKS! Both of you ... the difference between the two types ... is the obvious, right?

Over the hundreds of times that I've looked at BB, I never even noticed that they had Candle Only FO.
Learn new things every day :)

I am just starting getting into candles as a hobby, mostly just tart melts. Is the general consensus that fragrant oils are better in candles, than essential oils?

Do most essentials oils smell medicine-like in candles but not in soaps? Or is it just Lavender?

Fragrance oils specifically made for candles work the best. EO's are iffy. Some morph, some clog the wick.

Hey Margo, I'm a newbie as well. Are you a lavender fanatic?

My grandfather (died in 1952) used to use lavender. Funny, you'd never think of it being a gentleman's fragrance.

After may failures or at least not the results I want I now use only fragrance in soy candles that are made for soy. I also know the rate that a soy candle can hold using the fragrances from the supplier I use.

I have found that soy is INCREDIBLY fussy with scent throw/fragrance oils. With the exception of handful I've already tested I only use fragrance oils MADE to perform in soy. I get them from candlescience.com oh and their lavender fo for soy candles is TO DIE FOR. The best lavender fo I have ever found. Ever.
