Has anyone made soap in a crock pot? I tried it as directed in The Everything Soap Making Book. It didn't turn out well at all. It was a straw like texture and didn't press into the molds well. I am trying to make some soap I can use while waiting for my CP soap to cure. Any Ideas?

Soap cooked in a crock pot will not be as fluid as CP. The consistency is more like mashed potatoes. I don't know how long you cooked yours, but for my small batches they are done in about 45 minutes. Then it gets glopped into a mold.

I am assuming soap made in a crock pot is HP soap. Is the curing time different from CP? What would the advantages of HP be?

i think i goes through the whole saponification process in the pot, so once its hard its good to use right away. thats how i understood it from what i read.

It's safe to use once it cools off, but more water needs to evaporate so the soap can get harder. If you can wait at least a couple of weeks, the soap will last longer too.

All the crock pot soaps I've made, while pretty, turn to goo in the shower! Even the old ones. I shorten the cure time of CP by popping them in the oven (CP/HP). Set it to 180 or so and turn it off when you put the molds in and leave it sit overnight. Then I cure at least 2-3 weeks. Eventually, you make enough soap you always have something else to use while you wait:)

Crock pot soap is fun! It gives a rather lumpy texture to the soaps and is rustic in my opinion.

This was done in a crock pot.

That looks yummy Malla! Thanks for sharing your picture. I have never done the crock pot method, but now I am thinking I should be looking for a crock pot when the yard sales start up this spring!

Thank you all! I used a cold process soap recipe- as the book suggested most recipes would work...and I had the oils on hand. Now that I think about it, it was a rather small recipe. 3 hours cooked, was probably to long. Is it safe to say it is safe to handle? I don't trust my ph strips, they don't read accuratly. Could it be colored soap colors the strips?

For small recipes in a crock pot, mine are done in about 45 min. to one hour.
