Is there any difference in using fresh raw milk instead of store milk? I have officially lost my mind...I bought a milk goat today! :) Cutest little thing, her name is Lucy.

For CP soap, no it isn't. The lye should kill any nasties in the fresh, unpasteurized milk. I also noticed that fresh goat milk has more fat than the milk you buy in the store.

Great, yes I think it does have more fat. I bought a pygmy got about 50#s or so and their fat content is even higher than a typical milk goat. Is that going to be a problem at all? Thanks

How awesome! Congrats on your new baby! Gee, now you could sell the extra milk and pay for more soaping supplies! Or you could just make more soap....WIN WIN either way!

Wait a minute... don't you need two goats to get the milk process started? I would love to raise lamas, but goats or sheep would be nice. You are sooo lucky!

Thank you Soapbuddy, that was what I was wondering! Thanks to you as well, LavendarLady! I am excited about my new little farm edition, tomorrow morning I am going out to the barn to build a milking stand. This evening I attempted to milk her but she was not cooperative at all, she kept laying down thus making it almost impossible! The closest place selling raw goats milk is 20 miles from me and they sell it for $8 per liter! Plus breeding produces babies which can be sold as well (my last goat had twins)! At least that is what I told my hubby...we will see when the time comes! :)
Bubbles2, I made sure to buy a goat that was already with milk, I am not patient enough for the rest I want to make milk soaps with my own milk now! LOL Otherwise a goats gestation is about 5 1/2 months. Going to look at one more goat tomorrow because she needs a friend and unfortunately I can't put goats in the same pasture with the horses because one of the ponies decided about 2 years ago that she didn't like goats!
Thanks, I am very excited about my new addition!

Congratulation on Lucy. Can't wait to see pictures. We have a goat dairy very close to us. I love looking at the kids and can see why they would be tempting. However, I learned they are great escape artists and couldn't picture myself running around after goats!

One of my daughters rides horses and was sharing with me how dogs and goats are bad about chewing on the horses tails. I wonder if your pony was on to that fact. :P

Waiting for a picture of TWO new additions! Man, I can't believe how much goats milk is by you! I guess there is something to be said about living in a depressed area

Ughhhh...it will not let me upload my files! It says they are to big, but I re-sized them and they are under 25 kb which is ridiculously small anyways! Any tips for this?
