Teach Soap

Has anyone done this and can I get some feedback on whether it turned out to be good, bad or ugly?

Would breathable shrink wrap help the CP's to fare better? Any other advice would be great.

Personal experience, I use the shrink wrap band, meaning 2 sides open, for the soap to breath. I would prefer breathable ones but no budget for that. But some of my soap don't even like the 2 side open shrink wrap band. Some I mean the pink clay and milk soap. Pink clay attracts moisture and some milk soap too. Whatever additives you put that attracts moisture would not do well in shrink wrap, in my opinion that is.

I'm an advocate of shrink wrapping. Been shrink wrapping the whole bar and never had a problem. I like it because it retains the fragrance of the soap longer IMO. Starting shrinkwrapping when I started selling about 6 years ago. Print a label, slap in on the soap and it's good to go. With a heat gun, it takes me about 10 seconds to shrink wrap one bar of soap. It's very inexpensive and effective.

Just a note, Moisture will continue to evaperate in cp and you'll end up with loose wrapping and waisted time if your not giving them or selling them in a timely manner.

Ummmm.....not sure I buy that dusty. Not saying it can't happen.....just that it's never happened to me. I sell a lot of soap in the spring so I'm making soap like crazy now. Then I usually travel in the summer. And start selling again in fall and around the holidays. I've had a couple hundred bars of soap that I made for spring, that sat wrapped, in a box, in my garage for over 18 months and in some instances over 24 months. Never seen a loose wrapper. The biggest problem I have is the ink on the labels will smear if the soaps are moved around a lot inside the box. In 6 years of shrink wrapping over 2,000 bars a year, haven't seen one yet. But again....just because I've never seen it, doesn't mean it can't happen.

No worries for you then supersoaper. I don't sell very much. I have soap that has gone from 4-5 oz. at cure down to 3-4, but were talking a large span in between the two shows I do. Maybe it's my recipe.

Dusty I see you're in Nevada. I'm in eastern NC. Two different climates. On any given day here in the summer the humidity will peak at 95%. Winter for us is about 75%. I can see how in Nevada that would happen so I doubt it's your recipe. A drop of water doesn't stand a chance in your climate......same drop will last for days around here.

Have you thought about doing a water discount in your recipe? That might reduce shrinkage a little as it'll have less moisture to begin with.

We hit 120 sometimes here in the summer. I may have to try that, thanks for the suggestion. I am a newbie at 3 years and have no idea how I do that, is it in the soap calc?
