Hi Soapbuddy, can you tell me if my Pure olive oil bars made with all Goats milk instead of water, are still Casille bars?.
I used 100 % Pomace oil, just changed the water to milk. They are lovely on your skin, so much more moisturising.

I would call them Goat's milk Castille as some customers prefer a vegan product.

Believe it or not, some people, a lot of people actually, call olive + other oils castille soap. It has always been a pet peeve of mine, but seems pretty prevalent in my experience. So your even asking the question make me like you! :D

Awesome, thanks for that, I like to know in case someone queries it. It is so softening and a lovely feel when your skin has dried, just that extra bit of pampering never hurt anyone I say..
Hi LavenderLady, Pure Olive oil bars are my favourite, I feel guilty calling them Castille soaps, I don't know why, I just do.

HI yourself! :) And there is no reason to feel guilty at all. In fact, you should be proud if you are offering a pure olive oil soap. I do agree with SuperSoaper about acknowledging the goats milk in it (a lot of people love it, but a Vegan would not), but what you make is a great pampering soap. Now days we do not expect Castille soap to come from that town or strictly from oil produced in that town, so say it loud and proud; you make Castille soap! Hey, at least yours is real olive oil soap. I was looking for some liquid, pure castille, soap a few years back, and had to go through several pages of listings before I ever saw one that was all olive oil. In my book Some olive oil = not real Castille soap!

Thanks LavenderLady, I guess that's really the reason why I never called my soaps Castille, there are so many imitations out there. My second batch of soap made was 100% Olive oil, I use Pomace as it has better soaping qualities, then discovered so many other fakes, that I got a bit worried about how people would react to mine.
Shouldn't have bothered about it, they sell faster than any other soap I make, I can barely keep up with them. Now that I am adding Goat's milk, they are just so much nicer, I know they will fly too.
Just made a Luxury Bar with Pomace, Coconut, Mango Butter, Cocoa Butter, Almond Oil and Vegetable shortening, added Sandalwood, Benzoin and Orange oils, I can't wait to try them.

I've never made a 100% Olive Oil (Castille) soap but I'd like to try. Are there any downsides to using only Olive Oil in a soap? Does it cleanse well? It seems like it would be extremely moisturizing, which is a good thing. Is it also very gentle? I'm also just now experimenting with Goat Milk so that's why this thread caught my eye.

Another thing I want to try soon is a soap that combines honey and milk. Do you also make those?

Thanks,
Linda

Pure castille soap is very mild. It also needs a longer cure time. One year old castille soap is better than one that's only a couple of months old. It will clean gently, but don't expect many bubbles. It's more creamy. Some people find castille soap slimey.

A lot of grocery stores carry condensed GM in a can in the baking isle. Check near the condensed milk. You have to mix 1:1 with water before use. It's not the fresh stuff but it works in a pinch. I keep a can in stock "just in case". "Just in case" what......I don't know. I know that you know.....just in case.

Ash you need to listen to that Otis Redding song....."Dock by the bay". About an east coast guy moving to San Fran and.....well, just listen. It's a good tune.

Just in case you don't have an old goat sitting around the house. (Mine is at work--that's all I'm saying)

...old goat  Well, to find goats milk, you go down the road to where you see goats, you go up to the goat and check if its the correct gender, then you....awe heck, grocery store is easier! Seriously though, I don't know what type of area you live in, but you can look in the paper or on the "c" list and find a goat farm close to you, then ask if they sell their milk (some don't because the use it all themselves), or you could place an add, asking for some. I live out in the country, so I just stopped by a farm that had goats in the field and asked. Good luck finding the goat!
