My wife loves it. I hate it. Honestly, I don't think its all that. Purchased some a few years ago and spent so much on a single batch that I would've had to sell each bar for $14 just to break even. Not worth it IMHO.

I've been getting mine from this ebay store:

I think Ylang ylang price depends on how many times it's distilled from, meaning different grades. The top grade is called the extra I think and it's VERY expensive. This one I bought is second distillation, smells really floral already. I don't have the budget to get the extra grade.

But you don't have to use that much. It's more of an "enhancer" to other fragrances than having to use a lot at one time. Adds the right touch to florals and herbals. You want to talk about big bucks--check out rose EO, chamomile, or catnip. This ain't a cheap hobby.

I'm a simple kind of guy. In Italy we have a saying which translates to: "A loaf of bread, a jug of wine and thou" which means......you know what it means. I don't think I've ever used an "enhancer". And please understand that I'm not criticizing, I just don't understand the need. Guess I'm showing my ignorance here and that's ok. I'm ignorant about a lot of things.....and obviously scents and fragrances are one of them. Pretty sad for a soapmaker huh? Ok ok ok, I'll admit that I'm more into the chemistry than how they smell. Busted.

Supersoaper, what you don't know about scents, you sure make up for in other ways!!!!!!!!!! I almost flunked college chemistry. Either the prof had early dementia( he was obsessed with the periodic table), or I had it. Sodium what???????????

It's Sodium triacetoxyborohydride.....and you dont' want to know what it's used for.

Most college science professors are socially deficient. They know the stuff...they just can't teach it.

Organic EO's do always cost more, and 20 isn't that high compared to most. With EOs, the price is basically determined by a few criteria. First of all it's based on what amount of volatile oil can be expressed from what amount of herb/shrub/flower/spice . The harder it is to get the oil out, the more it takes to make a sufficient quantity of oil, the more it costs, which is why a rose EO is about $450-700$ an ounce.
Then it is based upon the method of harvesting. An organically grown product will cost more and a wildcrafted (meaning the product was gathered where it grew in the wild) product will cost the second highest.
Then it is based upon the method of distillation, which includes the consideration of the country of origins level of modern technology, or lack thereof. For instance, the Bulgarian Otto of Rose (otto just means oil) is going for anywhere between $450- $700 an ounce Chinese rose oil is running about $350 to $640 an ounce. Without taking the whole page, suffice it to say that the growing conditions and the distillation methods are different. (The French have the 2nd highest rose oil price and their method and growing condition is also different, but a good part of their price is inflated due to their reputation in history).
The constant between all of these, is that it takes a whole lot of rose petals (the Bulgarians actually distill 5xs and use the whole flower, but the rest just use petals) to make the EO. It takes 30 roses to make just one drop of EO.
While there may be other small influences in price, these are the main determining factors.

Sorry  to have written a book, can you tell I love EO's?

Ylang, Ylang complete does cost more and if it is organic, more still. If you are looking for bigger quantities at better prices, send me a PM.

The only thing I remember about HS Bio/Science was a male teacher standing up in front of a 50% plus class of female students and telling us that mentrual cramps were a figment of our imagination! I wonder if he's still alive.. lol
I'm assuming he's not...Some woman in all black and a ski mask probably walked up to him and said "Figment THIS!..." And that was the end. lol
 shhhhh, who told you what I...um, what was said?
