If anyone is interested I have a recipe for solid moisturising bars. They are made of 80% cocoa butter. These aren't soaps, they are pure luxury for your face or body. The recipe is in one of my soap books, I made a small batch yesterday, and my skin feels lovely. Especially if you keep some in the fridge for those hot summer days. Depending on what you add to them, you can use them as massage bars, moisturising your skin, or cooling down sunburn. I am happy to share with all if you would like, it's not a secret, something everyone would love to use, once you've made them.

Sounds like it would be a very hard lotion bar with that much cocoa butter. Do you find that you need to change the formula for cold(er) climates?

No problem.
It's 20% coconut oil, you can add mango butter or shea butter to make up the 20% and 80 % cocoa butter. You can play around with the percentages. Melt the cocoa butter very gently in a bowl over hot water, keep the temperature as low as possible. When nearly completely melted take off heat, and stir in the rest of your butters or coconut oil. Add essential oils of your choice, and keep stirring to make sure the oils etc are all incorporated, I added Calendula oil and lavender. Keep stirring as it cools then pour into very small moulds, as this will be too brittle to cut when cold. This melts on your skin, it's devine to use, and I will be adding different oils depending on what I decide to use it for.
I also made it with 40 % cocoa butter, 40% coconut oil, 20 % Pomace oil, and made a cream and added 3-5 tablespoons of Calendula water, which is just as wonderful to use. I keep that in a jar in the fridge and use daily as a moisturiser.
Hope you like it.

Yes it's a very hard bar, maybe not so good in winter, but when I changed the percentages and made the second bar, I found it much more agreeable to use, the addition of water made it more of a cream, which is just as lovely. So you could use the cream more for winter, and the hard bar chilled for summer.

Sorry about that, I only use distilled water in all my soaps and creams etc, I forgot to mention that. As I have a water distiller, I take it for granted that everyone has one. Yes you would have to put Grapefruit seed extract if you used ordinary water.
When the oils and butters are melted and cooling, quickly stir in a few drops at a time your distilled water, or in my case, distilled water and calendula infusion. You have to keep stirring vigorously to keep it from splitting, but it does work.

Thanks for that Soapbuddy, just goes to show that you can't believe everything you read. I thought that it seemed strange, but gave it a go anyway. Will keep an eye on it, have it in the fridge. It will hit the bin as soon as it looks like it's going to go off.
The solid moisturising bars will be fine though won't they?
It seems that there are a lot of traps in some of the books out there. I guess that's why you guys are so helpful in stopping us from making those mistakes.
A big thank you Soapbuddy.
