Here ya go SupermanSoaper. I am experimenting with all kindds of molds and my friend got me a silicon mold from a garage sale yesterday that has little triangles or I guess they are actually pyramids for guest soaps. I want to try it. I measured the legs on the side of the pyramid and they are all the same size at 1 inch each and there are 12 of them on the sheet. How much soap do I have to make? If you can answer this I would bear your children LOL!

Not SuperSoaper, but I would put that mold on the scale and fill one pyramid with water to see how much it holds. Then make a batch according to the weight of each.

Soapbuddy's way is definitely easier. But if you want to know how to do it:

Area of a equilateral triangle is the square root of 3 / 4 x side squared.

(REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE MEASURING IN FEET NOT INCHES. 1” = .0833 FEET)
So….

1.732 / 4 = .43301 .43301 x .00693 = .00300
Volume for a pyramid is 1/3 x base area x h
So……

.3333 x .00300 x .0833 = .0000833 cubic feet for 1 little old pyramid.

If there are 12 of them 12 x .0000833 = .0009996 cubic feet total.
Now you have the amount of cubic feet, you should be able to calculate the rest on your own from yesterdays lesson. Remember that that the weight of oils is about 8.2 pounds per gallon…..and that a cubic foot contains about 7.48 gallons.
If you need help from there let me know.

It’s my opinion (for what it matters) that you shouldn’t try to make a batch of soap that small. Make a regular batch, fill the little pyramids, then pour the rest into another mold. But since when does my opinion matter around here?

And thanks for the offer to mother my children but I already found someone for that. It’s a cool offer though…..

I like Soapbuddy way better. No offense SupermanSoaper. Yeah after I saw how little it is I am not going to try to make a batch of soap that small. So I am going to follow the advice of both of you HA! Maybe later on that offer!! Hope your team wins but I think they are out of it now right?

No offense taken. Yesterday you wanted to learn how to calculate these and I thought you had an interest since you're a "math" teacher.

I would have done it the Soapbuddy way also as it's much easier. If you remember, ComplexBeauty suggested doing that yesterday.

Yes, my team is out of it. The Super Bowl starts shorty so this'll be my last post until after the game. May your team win. The line of the game is GB by 2.5 points with 45 total. And since only 1 team can win, I'm pulling for the NFC team. If you don't know which team that is.......well, maybe you can get the notes from a classmate. Math class is over for today.
