Teach Soap

My wife goes through a bar of soap amazingly fast. We each have our own favorite fragrance and we keep a bar of each in our shower. The bars I make are about 5 oz each and aside from the fragrance, it’s the same formula. My wife is a small, petite woman and probably weighs about 110 pounds when she’s dripping wet………my left leg from the knee down weighs about the same. Comparing bodily surface area, I’m almost 3 times her size. Yet she will go through a bar of soap about every 5 or 6 days where it takes me almost 2 weeks.

We have a large bathroom and shower area and frequently shower together. (You all get your mind out of the gutter). We’re married so we’re allowed to shower together. Plus she’s cute when she showers. She isn’t taking 2 hour long showers and we both finish about the same time. We both lather about the same using washcloths, etc. Yet my bars of soap last over twice as long as hers. All soap variables being equal except the fragrance, is it possible that one fragrance will outlast another? Could one fragrance make a bar of soap harder and last longer? I’m thinking of starting to charge her for soap usage. She’s so cute though…..I just couldn’t.

Anybody else ever notice that different fragrances make the soap last longer?

Maybe she is secretly showering with out your knowledge, she loves your soap so much that she sneaks off to use it

Is she letting the soap dry out between uses? Is she letting the water from the shower hit the soap a lot? If you have a lot of body hair, soap wil lather better with you and you will need less.

Both bars are stored on a build in shelf out of the water stream. I'm home all day and knows when she showers and we both shower once a day. Sometimes twice if it's been a hard day doing farmwork.

And no, I'm pretty smooth with almost no hair. Thankfully that Italian gene bypassed me.

Any other ideas? I know that FO's like Arabian Spice and the Deep Rich Chocolate trace very quickly and make the soap hard as a rock after it cools from the gel. Wonder if I did a trial with soaking them in water for a few days. This isn't a pressing problem but if I can get bars to last longer, it would make customers happy. But then again they wouldn't order as often. Never mind.

Next time you make a batch, try adding sodium lactate, or slightly recalculate your recipe to include abour 1% beeswax. See if that makes any difference.

Why not just trade soaps for a week and see if her's still goes faster. Tell her its an experiment you need to do to test your soaps. I have thought about keeping a log to see how long a bar of my soap will last, but then I get so excited (yes, we even like watching grass grow) to choose a new bar I forget to mark it down.

Bubbles. Great idea. I just hope my buddies don't beat me up because I smell like a gardenia. But I like that idea. Very scientific approach. I'll put two fresh bars in the shower for when she gets back home.

ljm1180......if you're grossed out then your mind is in the gutter. I'm guessing you never shower? (while dusting off my hands....My work here is done)
