I just don't know what kind of stick mixer to buy. There are SO MANY! Today I saw a paint mixer at an art store for $8 and I wasn't sure if that's what I need. I don't have a clue what to buy.

Is this good?

What about these?

http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-CSB-76- ... 075&sr=1-3

http://www.amazon.com/Proctor-Silex-597 ... 075&sr=1-4

http://www.amazon.com/Oster-2-Speed-250 ... 73&sr=1-22

http://www.amazon.com/Hamilton-Beach-Sp ... 03&sr=1-30

I'm not looking for an expensive one but one that will do the best job for the least amount of money.

I have one like the Hamilton Beach. also easy to use and clean. I haven't used it on any batches larger than 4# so I don't know how it would be but it works well on 4#

The first one doesn't have a removable shaft, I would pass.
The Cuisinart CSB-76 Smart Stick Hand Blender looks pretty good.
I would pass on the Proctor Silex 59735 Immersion Hand Blender since the stick portion is plastic and it could melt.
The Oster 2-Speed 250-Watt Hand Blenders looks ok, but at 250 Watts is not that strong.
The Hamilton Beach 2 Speed Hand Blender will whip a lot of air into your soap.
See if you can find a stick blender with a detachable shaft, preferably stainless steel.

I had the hamilton beach one which died on me in the middle of a batch :(
Now i have one with a detachable shaft (sorry i cannot find the brand on the mixer) which is great because it came with an additional whisk attachment that I use for other things I make. I do have a plastic detachable shaft with SS blade, the plastic eventually going to break down but has lasted me over a year, I tend to soap at lower temperatures so I cannot speak to how it would do in a hot pot of soap.

If you can ever find a used Braun with all stainless steel shaft, buy it! It has lasted me for the last 3 years with every day use.

I am trying once more to upload my first attempts at whipped soap, the one below is my very first one, it was too thin and watery and didn't shape very well.

Image

Below is the second batch, I added sugar to try to make a sort of exfoliation bar, it seems too hard though, waiting for it to cure for a final decision.

I am waiting for some supplies from BB, I ordered the cute silicon mold that has the 12 cavities, i have some fun ideas for it. I also ordered a cookie press thinking it would give me more control when forming the soap.

Take care
Erin

**ugh, so the second one is all blurry and they are both really BIG, this picture thing is foreign to me...... sorry all.
